We walked back out into the mall and suddenly felt warmer. Perhaps it was the lack of air conditioning or masses of people, or perhaps it was the fact that Ross was close by my side. “Now where to?” He asked. I looked up at him and shrugged, thinking for a moment.

“Oh, hey, I promised my mom I’d stop by the music store here.” I said, instantly remembering my mother and I’s quest. “We’re looking for a new piano and William’s Music Shop was recommended to us. I told her I’d check out pricing. Do you mind?” I asked, slightly embarrassed. Ross shook his head.

“Not at all. Where is it?”

“Just up the escalator I think. It’ll be real quick, I promise.” He smiled again and nodded, following me to the escalator.

“What’s your Twitter name?” Ross asked out of the blue, his iPhone in his hand.

“Why…?” I asked in way of an answer, slightly hesitant.

“Just tell me.” He said, looking at me impatiently.

“You’ll laugh.” I protested.

“No I won’t.” He promised.

With a sigh I looked up to him and answered. “Danisaur55.” I admitted. I could hear Ross stifle a chuckle and I shoved him lightly. He quickly tapped something into his phone before tucking back in his back pocket. I heard a soft ‘ding’ from my own phone and pulled it out, seeing that my Twitter feed had updated. Scared to see what he wrote, I opened it up and saw Ross’ tweet.

rossr5: Chillin’ in Portland with my new friend Dani. Heading to William’s to check out some keys. @danisaur55

I laughed and shook my head, stepping off the escalator and heading to William’s. Once we got there we saw it. Right out front, in the middle of the store, there was most gorgeous ivory grand piano I had ever seen before. The sight literally took my breath away and I looked to Ross who noticed my expression and smiled warmly.

“Go check it out.” He urged, walking with me into the store. It’s absolutely stunning, even more so up close. I slowly ran my fingertips along the length of it, stopping as I get to the curve in the instrument.

“It’s beautiful.” I marveled.

“Try to play it.” Ross said, sitting me down at the bench.

“There’s no way the store owner would let me. Besides, I’m not even that good and there are tons of people around.” I stood back up, delivering excuse after excuse. Ross shook his head and sat me down again.

“What’s the harm in trying? I don’t see a sign anywhere.” He sing-songed, raising and eyebrow and flashing a sexy sideways smirk. Damn that boy. I nodded as an answer and Ross lowered the top, hopping up and sitting on top of the piano. “Go on.” He prompted. I nodded slowly again and brought up my hands to the keys, setting my foot by the sustain pedal, ready to rest it there whenever I needed it. I slowly began a few bars of Scheherazade, mainly the part near the beginning with the octave runs. It had to be the most recognizable part of the song, and on this piano it sounded absolutely heavenly.

“Wow.” Ross breathed when I was done. “And you said you weren’t that good.” I shook my head profusely.

“I’ve been practicing that ever since I started playing.” I justified.

“And how long ago was that?”

“Just shy of two years.” I said sheepishly.

“That’s amazing!” He said hopping off the piano. “Can you play anything else?”
