Chapter One
I always hated croissants. Eating one was like a chore to me. It was just too messy. There was always pieces of the bread left on the floor whenever I ate one. I didn't know why I kept eating it. But the real question was why I kept eating it at this cafe. It was so bad.
I was about to clean up the mess I'd made when someone spoke. "Hey, you don't need to do that." Derrick said, taking the napkin away from my hand. "It's fine. It makes me feel better."He laughed, ignoring my weird response. "You've been here since I started my shift. I'm starting to think you have a crush on me." He said with a playful smile, making his dimples appear. Derrick was cute. He was tall and had silver hair. Not too built, but not too skinny either. I did like him, just not that way. He was just too charming for my liking.
"Actually, I'm here for your croissant." Liar. But I couldn't really tell him the real reason I was there. Besides, lying was so much easier.Someone once told me, "Always tell the truth, so when you need to lie, they will always believe you." And it always worked. I'd been lying to everyone around me for a long time and no one suspected a thing. It was just easy to tell a person what they would want to hear. I guess you could say I was the best at it. I was a natural. Lying was my best friend. At least it wouldn't abandon like people did.
