It was an icy cold day. The two boys - identical twins- sat on the bench holding hands. Staying close to each other. Their little mittens clasping around each other's as the bitter winter touched their tender cheeks. They've been waiting - waiting for their mother to return to them so they can go home. It was getting late, and it was almost time for cartoon hour.
"Do you think they're coming to get us?" One of the little boys asked, his dark hair covering his hair and blowing into the wind. Sometimes getting into his eye. The other boy remained impassive, silent. He was shivering and hungry - not to mention tired.
"Kotarou?" The boy asked, snapping the boy out of his silence, and earning a smile. Reassuring as well as hoping.
"They'll come. It's not like they would leave us." Kotarou said, lifting his other covered hand and patting the snow flakes off his brother's head. "Don't worry,Kojuro!"
But deep inside,Kotarou was worried. His mother told them to meet her at the bench by the bus stop in ten minutes. But they boys have been there for hours- freezing cold and hungry. Kojuro's eyes were watering as he watched people pass by them. Talking to others if not on cell phones, kids were running around their parents and holding their hands. Smiles on their faces. Shopping bags in their hands. His little heart felt empty - his parents weren't here for them. He wanted to hold his mother's hand while Kotarou held his father's hand. He wanted to feel the sweet warmth of love, not the bitter cold of December.
"Kotarou, She's not coming. They're not coming. " Kojuro muttered. Before Kotarou said anything a girl was standing paces away from them. She wore a fur trimmed white coat and a tanned scarf. Ear muffs to cover her ears -furry. She was a pretty girl, tanned skin with big almond brown eyes. In her mitten gloves was a warm cup of hot chocolate, extending her hand to the boys with a cheery smile on her face. Kotarou was hesitate, but Kojuro obliged.taking the cup and downing half of the warm chocolate. Kotarou took a sip of the cup. His face feeling flushed as his cheek. Adding some warmth. The girl smiled her cheery bright smile, and skipped away deeper into the mall. The boys watched as the girl turned back around and waved her hand. Her smile. Her prettiness. She didn't have to do this for them - this had nothing to do with her. She seemed not to mind it. Helping them like this. The girl met her parents and agree left. Leaving the twin boys with a rather sweet impression.
Not once had she given them her name -they were just strangers.
