After Biology had ended, I was getting my books together when I saw Chas glaring at me again. I studied her for a moment. Chastity with her long, wavy dark brown hair she refused to ever do anything with. She was staring out the door, an angry look stuck on her face. "What's wrong with you?" I asked. She shook her head. "You knew I liked him, yet you went for him anyway?" She spoke as if I had kicked a puppy. "'Went for him'?" I repeated. "Chas, I haven't even known him for an hour. I don't know anything about him, and frankly neither do you," She shook her head. "I gotta get to second period. I'll see you at lunch," and with that she strode out the door.
I walked out after her. Oliver had been waiting for me outside. I started walking across campus to my second period class, Algebra. Oliver started following me. "Can I help you with something, Oliver?" I asked sarcastically. He walked faster, then stood in front of me, making me stop. I was only about eye level with his chest. I looked up, straining. He backed away a little. "Actually, you can. First, you can call me Oli," I nodded. "Okay. What else?" He smirked a little, his dimples making my heart flutter. "Well, you said you would show me around. Can you tell me where the Algebra class is?" I nodded again. "I'm heading there now. C'mon, we shouldn't be late," And with that we walked side-by-side to our next class.
In our school, the lunch tables are lined up one after another. I sat down at mine and Chastity's favorite table, the last one on the right side. I sat down at the fiberglass table, sticking my black Skullcandy ear-buds in my ears gently. I clicked my iPod on and shuffled through songs. Finally I settled on Dread in my Heart by Mother Mother. I searched around the lunchroom, my eyes scanning the crowds of people for Chastity. I spotted her and waved to her. As she began to walk over to me, she was stopped by a girl. A girl with platinum crimped blonde hair, fake tan, and about ten pounds of makeup. This, my friends, was no other than Lacey Tristan. Even before we were in middle school she was a bitch to us. I watched carefully, standing. I pulled my ear-buds out and began to stride over slowly. Chas was carrying a lunch tray. Lacey said something, and slapped it out of her hands. Her salad and soda hit the floor and spilled out onto the foyer.
"That'll teach you to try talking to my soon-to-be boyfriend, whore," She boasted. "Hey! Lacey!" I called. I was standing behind her now. She turned, scowling as she saw me. "Ew. It's you," I smiled. "Yes. It's me. And that's my best friend you just messed with," I began. Lacey turned slightly at Chastity. "And? Your point being? I don't have all day darling," She mocked. "Whatever you're going to do to me, do it now." She added, inspecting her french-tipped nails. "Trust me, I wouldn't touch you if my life depended on it. However..." In the blink of an eye I stepped directly in front of her and snatched her Gucci clutch right out of her hand, and backed away quickly. "Hey - Hey! Give that back!" She whined. "You want it?" I held it up over my head. She began to claw at me for it. I had a good few inches on her, which came in handy. I scoffed. "Fine, take it," and chucked it across the lunchroom floor, right through Chastity's spilled lunch. "Ugh!" She glared at me. "You - You BITCH! You're going to have to pay for that!" She whined, ordering one of her 'friends' to fetch her clutch. I looked around, realizing how much attention I'd drawn.
I watched as one of Lacey's clones she calls friends went and got the soiled purse. I smiled at my work. A deep voice rang out from behind me. "Damn," It said. I spun around. Oli was standing behind me, smiling. "Aren't you something else," I felt my cheeks flush red. "I-It was nothing. She does that all the time," I stammered. Chastity smiled. "Thanks, Haven," I shook my head. "She's been bothering you since we were little. I haven't ever let you suffer through her bullshit, and I sure as hell ain't gonna start now," I turned back to Oli. "Wanna come sit with us?" I asked. He smiled, nodding slightly. With that, the three of us walked back to our table together.
"So," Oli swallowed a bite of his sandwich. "What about them?" He gestured towards the center table, chock full of teenage boys. "That's what we like to call the jock table," Chastity answered. She had placed herself next to him, while I sat across from the two of them. I turned around to get a good look at the table they were talking about. "Yeah," I added. "Their leader is Kade; he's the one with the blue cast," I informed him. "Then there's Nico, Ian, Adam, Kevin, John, and Tyler. They basically just follow Kade around all day," Chas batted her eyelashes at Oliver. "You could easily overthrow Kade," she said, pitching her voice a tad higher than it normally was. "'Overthrow'?" He echoed. "We're not tyrants, and this isn't a monarchy," He replied. I stared at him for a moment. "What?" he asked. "I like the way you talk, that's all," I replied.
