-Cassie-
As the school bell rang, signaling the end of another dreary day, a peculiar announcement resonated through the loudspeakers. "Could Cassandra Fletcher please report to the principal's office?" The words pierced through the cacophony of chattering students.

Curiosity tugged at my thoughts as I made my way toward the principal's office. What could have caused such chaos? I couldn't help but notice the aftermath of what seemed like a tornado wreaking havoc in the office. Papers and office supplies were strewn about, creating an unsettling scene.

Mr. May emerged from his office, wearing a faint smile. "I see you've noticed our 'redecorating' efforts," he joked, his voice betraying a hint of seriousness. "But I do need to discuss a few matters with you, Cassandra."

I nodded, my mind racing with anticipation, and followed him into his office. We settled down, and Mr. May began to unravel the tangled web of events. "Firstly, your mother didn't exactly cooperate with the authorities, as you may have already guessed. Consequently, they had to resort to tasering her to subdue her."

A small giggle escaped my lips, an odd reaction given the gravity of the situation.

"Secondly," Mr. May continued, his tone shifting to a more compassionate one, "the local orphanage has stepped forward to provide you with temporary housing until we establish contact with any other family you might have. So, once you're home, pack your belongings and head over there, alright?"

I nodded, absorbing his words. "I understand," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.

Mrs. Fletcher, my heart goes out to you in this distressing time," Mr. May apologized, his empathy shining through. "To alleviate some of your burdens, I'm granting you three days off from school. You'll have ample time to settle yourself and your belongings in your new temporary home. Rest assured, your academic standing won't suffer due to this."

"Thank you," I managed to say, holding back tears of both relief and happiness. "I'll start right away."

With that, I rose from my seat and hurried out of the office, propelled by a newfound sense of purpose.

-Zeke-

The day weighed heavily upon me, casting a pall over my spirit. The recent upheaval involving Cassie and her mother had left me feeling contemplative. It was a day when I yearned for solitude, a chance to retreat into my thoughts. My friends understood and respected my need for space, allowing me to be alone. However, Rafe, ever the antagonist, overheard their conversation and seized the opportunity to make my day unbearable.

As I exited the classroom, Rafe's voice sliced through the air, calling out to me. Ignoring him only further stoked his anger, and he persistently pursued me down the hall.

"Slater, turn around and face me, you coward," Rafe jeered, a malicious smirk plastered across his face.

I stood my ground, refusing to be baited.

"Do you want to die, Zeke?" Rafe snapped, his anger simmering. "I said turn around!"

Still, I didn't yield, holding my position steadfastly.

"Rafe, I've been dead inside ever since I witnessed Celeste take her own life," I hissed, the words laced with bitterness. "Try me if you dare, but know this: I won't back down."
