When he passed by, she was ready.
"Harvey isn't here. I called you, because I wanted to talk to you."
He sent her a confused expression.
"Lucas, please," she motioned to the chair, "sit."
He sat, eyeing her warily.
"I get it," she arched a brow, " You met with Louis today."
He shrugged. The vulnerability entering his eyes again. God! He really was a little Harvey. But the real Harvey was gray. Deliciously so. She smiled to herself.
"Is there a reason you called me here?" Impatience. Of course.
"Yes, I'm curious. Why Hope?" Donna spoke not as a COO, but as a mother.
He nodded stoically. His brow furrowed.
"We met at Harvard," he sighed awkwardly, "You know what she does. She told me she learned from the best."
"I know my daughter, yes." Donna nodded slowly, "But this is more than gratefulness. You brought her as a condition of your hire. You made her a part of your career."
"She made it possible. I don't know where I'd be without, Poppy, and I don't want to know." He stood and buttoned his suitcoat.
Harvey stepped in behind him.
"And honestly, I don't appreciate the curiosity. Poppy and I are a package deal. If you want to call a meeting with me about a case, fine. Don't question me about her."
"Watch it," Harvey leveled behind him.
"I'll more than watch it. I'm grateful for the hire, and I've been scared out of my mind about coming to this family table. It's one thing to question me as a lawyer, I get that. But I'm not...I won't...Poppy thinks she's being patronized here, and she's not. I won't stand for people doubting why I brought her here! She's not some little toy I want to carry around. I need her. "
Harvey stared in shock, and Donna'sface softened.
"I don't doubt for one second that she is a strong, capable woman. I needed to ensure you knew," Donna arched a conspiratorial brow.
"She better not hear about this conversation," Lucas nodded in relief as he stuck a hand in his pocket. He walked away quietly.
Harvey turned to Donna.
"Was I like that?"
Donna looked and laughed.
"Worse, Batman. Way worse."
"We have to do something," Harvey shook his head.
"Like what? Play matchmaker?" She smirked and crossed her arms.
He smiled and reached a hand around her waist, "I just want to save her ten years."
