‣ the reason john is so fond of his comfy jumpers is because they're absolutely nothing like his army uniform.
‣ john doesn't always drink all the tea he makes - just making the tea is a calming process for him. when he was young and harry would come back drunk, his mum would ask him for help making tea. when he was in the army, he didn't have the option of making any at all. now, whenever he is bored, nervous, anxious, happy, or what-have-you, he makes tea... although sometimes, he really does just fancy a nice cuppa.
‣ the reason john has sleeping pills to give to henry in thob is because he still can't get through the night without them.
‣ after sherlock 'dies', john's limp begins to gradually resurface to the point where, for a while, he goes back to walking with a cane. a week after he visits his grave, the tremor in his hand returns too.
‣ the main reason john isn't close to his family is because they didn't accept harry's sexuality. he chose her over them, and john is angry with her for choosing alcohol over him.
‣ when john was in university, he spent a lot of time studying, not going out with people. his reputation as a ladies' man is entirely fabricated by his med school friends because he was the best rebound around after a bad breakup. he still is, and all his girlfriends in the series came off of bad breakups.
‣ as a military man, john pristinely and compulsively makes both beds in the flat.
‣ john, sherlock, and the yard once got together for a paintball game. john had everyone out in under 10 minutes.
‣ john started to listen to great violinists to claim the silence that filled 221b after sherlock's death. he actually purchased a faulty cd player that was known for turning on and starting at random simply to make his nights more bearable.
‣ john turns the radio up really loud when he's in the car and sings along. badly. he gets half the lyrics wrong.
‣ when john does drive, he changes lanes every time there's a scrap of trash or an empty fast-food box in the road because in afghanistan, those were the sort of things that could harbor ieds.
‣ ever since baskerville, john has been nervous around large dogs. he also doesn't like heights, not after the fall.
