Maya

I was frozen in place. After all these years of no contact with Liam, he still manages to mess things up. I was ready for a new life, I'm in university, I have an apartment, and I practically live with my best friend. But then he comes along, and ruins it all again.

"Are you okay?" Angela asked. I looked up from my phone. Shrugging, I swiped along the screen and waited as the messages popped up. A sigh left my lips.

From: Unknown

Hey Maya! Heard you were in London! Want to meet? xxx

And that was only one of the messages. There were six, all with similar things written, but worded differently. I wanted to cry, all the memories of Liam and I were coming back to me, and I didn't want to go through the heartbreak again. Liam's face popped into my mind, the old Liam, with Justin Bieber hair and the cutest smile. He wore baggy jeans with a turtle neck sweater, and a pair of Nike's. He wasn't the Liam he is now, and I missed him. I missed the old Liam. And I wish I could say the same for the new Liam.

Angela took the phone from me. "What a jerk," she mumbled. It was then that I saw her hands flying over the keyboard and I leaned over to snatch it from her. I wasn't going to let her stir things up, as I didn't want to communicate with Liam at all. He's a bastard and I hate him.

Right?

But I was too late, Angela's speedy-ness had worked against me as she'd already sent the message. I turned to glare at her, before skim reading what she'd wrote, praying it wasn't anything too bad.

To: Unknown

This is Maya's best friend. She doesn't want to talk to you, know you or think about you. Move along and stay out of her life, Payne. -Angela

I glanced to Ang who was tapping away on her own phone, and that's when I saw that she'd forwarded the number to herself. I sighed. My eyes fell down to the screen as a message popped through. I had an internal war over whether I should read it or not.

From: Liam

Angela, I know Maya hates me, I get told every day. Mum won't let me forget about it, so please get her to call me. I have some explaining to do.

Damn right you have some explaining to do, I thought. Angela was typing on her BlackBerry, her eyebrows knitted together as she chewed her bottom lip. Her mood suddenly changed, her eyes brightened as her phone beeped. I wanted to peer over and look, but she was pulling the phone away from my view.

I looked down to the messages on my screen. Should I give Liam a second chance? Without thinking, I saved his number.

Angela

Liam explained it all to me over text. I was still mad at him for making my best friend cry herself to sleep most nights, but everyone deserves a chance, and Liam has a damn good explanation. When he was signed to Syco, fans immediately found his Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, phone number and all his social networking.

So he and the boys all changed their accounts, which Maya wouldn't know, as she doesn't keep up with modern music -even though she promised me she would. Liam got a new anonymous Facebook he used to contact family, and he tried to friend request Maya, but she'd deleted her Facebook out of rage. He then tried texting her, but as he realised he had gotten a new phone and all of his numbers had disappeared, he couldn't contact her.
