*Ebon’s POV*
“I’m sorry, Master. We couldn’t find any trace of him,” Ray apologized. She and her team just came back from searching around town.
“No luck for us either,” Emerson admitted. I had gone with my family to look too, but we also came up with nothing. Samayo suddenly vanished about three days ago, and everyone in Phoenix Tear had been searching for him ever since.
“Do you think it had something to do with that weird girl?” Nikita asked.
“Seems likely,” I replied.
“I thought for sure he was asleep when that happened! Guess not,” Merce said.
“Don’t blame yourselves. We have no proof that those incidents were connected,” Alistair said, coming in with Celeste and Astro.
“Did you guys find anything?” I asked. Yes, we even asked the Dragon’s Den for help, since Dragon Slayers have amplified senses and Jacob had taken off again after the Zentopia Incident.
“That’s a negative,” Astro answered.
“We were able to follow his scent as far as Mt. Hakobe, but then the trail disappeared,” Celeste said.
“Mt. Hakobe? That’s really far!” Marek exclaimed.
“Why would he go away without saying goodbye?” Noah asked.
“Yuri, you said that he was regaining his strength and magic power, correct?” Alistair asked.
“Yes, he was.”
“Perhaps he felt that he going to cause problems for you. The fact that he ran so far shows that maybe he doesn’t want to be found.”
“That is consistent with his character,” Sheridan said thoughtfully, “after all, he isn’t really fond of being surrounded by people. He may have just wanted to learn more about his magic so he can use it more effectively.”
“So you’re saying we should just let him be?” I asked.
“It doesn’t look like you have any other options, but I’ll have my guys keep an eye out for him,” Alistair said.
“You know, if it turns out he was just working on his magic, I have an idea where we might find him,” Ray suddenly piped up.
“Where?” I asked.
“Voila!” She held up a flyer for the Grand Magic Games. She might be right, but I sensed an ulterior motive.
“Real subtle, Ray. I get the message.” Her brothers were smirking behind her. We have never competed in the Games before, but more people were campaigning to change that every year. Those three were the ringleaders for it.
“Oh, come on, Master! I think we can handle it!” Cole chimed in.
“Fine,” I gave in, and everyone else started cheering, “we’ll need to select five active members for the team, so everyone take off a couple weeks for training.”
*Ray’s POV*
“Yes!” I cheered, high-fiving my brothers, “he finally said we could!”
“I wanna be on the team!” Marek exclaimed.
“Me too!” Noah agreed.
“Sorry, midgets, he said active members,” Emerson said, shutting them down. That meant only wizards who have been regularly taking jobs, so that excluded the Anthlings, all members under ten, and Jacob (but he wasn’t around anyway).
“Will the Dragon’s Den be entering too?” Cole asked enthusiastically.
“Nope. We’re not an official guild remember?” Alistair reminded him.
“Oh, right…”
“But if you need extra training, I’m sure my Dragon Slayers wouldn’t mind a few sparring matches,” Alistair said slyly. Celeste and Astro had huge grins plastered on their faces. I could tell Emerson and I were thinking the same thing.
“I think we’ll take you up on that,” I said.
“You wanna go right now?” Celeste suggested.
“Sure!” We went into the secluded woods behind the guild to fight: Me and Emerson vs. Celeste and Astro.
“Let’s do this! SKY ANGEL… ARROW!”
“AURA ANGEL… DIVINE WING!”
“GALAXY DRAGON… ROAR!”
“SOLID SCRIPT: WATER!” All of our attacks collided. One thing was certain: with the Dragon’s Den’s help, we could not only make the team, but maybe even win the Games!
