Best friends ex

The beginning

Karissa's POV
I woke up with a jolt as I heard my alarm go off. I sighed as I realized it was only 7 am. I always like to set alarms on weekends so I can get up and be more productive. I dragged myself out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and cringed. My long brown curly hair looked more like a rats nest than anything right now. I grabbed a scrunchie and put it up into a messy bun and began getting ready.

I heard a thump on my door and turned around to see my dog Max walking in. He gently walked his tail and walked over to me. Max was a big fluffy golden retriever my mom got me for my 17th birthday.
"Hi Maxy!" I said in a cheerful voice lowering to the ground.

After brushing my teeth and giving some attention to Max I began to pick my outfit out. I threw a black champion hoodie on my bed along with some ripped jeans. I was the type of girl that would rather dress comfy than be cute. I walked back to the bathroom and jumped into the shower. I quickly dried off and got dressed, slipped on some old vans and grabbed my bag. I sprayed some perfume and put some chapstick on.

Today I was hanging out with my best friend, Trina. We have been inseparable since freshman year. I jogged downstairs and grabbed my keys.
"Hey hey hey where are you going so early" my mom said walking around the corner.
"I'm going to get some breakfast right now and maybe some Starbucks, I'm hanging out with Trina today. We're probably going to shop or something." I explained.
"I'm okay thank you honey, have a great day and be safe. I love you" she said starting to clean like always.
"Bye mom love you too" I said walking out of the door.
I jumped into my Toyota Corolla and pulled my phone into the aux. I played some Yg on the way to Starbucks.
"Hi can I get a bacon and sausage sandwich with cheese and a venti pink drink?" I said while digging in my bag for my wallet.
"Of course will that be all for you?"
This voice sounded familiar I thought to myself.
"Yes that will be all" I said in a kind voice.
I pulled up to the paying window and I instantly knew who it was. Trina's boyfriend, Sebastian. I smiled at him and waved as he opened the window.
"Hey you work here now?" I asked, still trying to find my wallet.
"Uh yeah I needed to start making some money so I got a job" he explained.
"Oh my god I can't find my wallet" I said getting flustered and pulling everything out of my bag.
"Don't worry about it, it's on me. Have a good day Karissa" he said with a smile and shut the window.
Sebastian was always a sweet guy. He was one of those guys that are extremely innocent. I started to talk to him more after Trina and him started dating.

Ethan: Good morning love

I read the message and just set my phone down. My boyfriend and I have been having some problems lately and I just didn't want to talk to him. He had just been out at a party drinking with his old high school friends.

I pulled up to the second window and grabbed the goodies. I started to my way to Trina's house while trying to eat and drive. I pulled up to her house and texted her saying I was here.

Trina is a typical "hot" girl. She is super sweet but she knows how good she looks. She has brown hair,  brown eyes, and a killer body. She opened the door and sat down.
"Hey bitch" she said poking me a bit.
"Good morning to you too" I said laughing.
"Okay so we're going to the mall, shopping our little hearts out and then getting some lunch after" she explained while putting lip gloss and staring at herself in the mirror.
"Sounds good to me" I said with a mouthful.

We pulled up to the mall and hopped out. We always went to Garage first because that was Trina's favorite  store. At this point I thought I should probably text Ethan back.

Karissa: good morning.
He immediately texted back.
Ethan: We need to talk.

I looked down at my phone and instantly knew something was wrong. Trina saw my face and came over to me.
"What's wrong?" She asked looking concerned.
"So Ethan just texted me saying we need to talk, after partying with his old high school friends." I explained.
"Oh no no no, shit" she said making a worried face.
"I know" I said.

Karissa: we can tonight if you want.
Ethan: okay me meet at our spot tonight at 8.

Our spot is a hidden creek we found when we first started dating on one of our little adventures. I was kind of worried. I loved him and wanted to be with him but our problems together kept adding up.

We pulled up to Panera and got out of the car. We walked in and I ordered my usual, a Mac n cheese bread bowl with a baguette on the side. We waited for our food and just took it to go.
"I'm so hungry" Trina mumbled digging in took get her chips.
"I'm always hungry" I said biting into my baguette.

I dropped Trina off at home and made my way to my house. I walked inside the door and was greeted by Max. He wagged his tail and jumped on me. I struggled to hold my drink, my food, and Max. I pushed him down and gave him a quick pet and went upstairs. I set everything on my bed and laid down. I turned on some Netflix and ate my food.

It was about 7:40 and I decided to finally get up and get ready to leave. I put my hair up into a messy bun and put on my grey sweats. I got in my car and drove to the creek. When I got there Ethan was already there sitting on the bridge with his head down. I walked up and sat down a good length away from him.
"Hey" he said softly.
"Hi" I responded.
There was a long pause until he finally broke the silence.
"So uh....um last night, you know I went to Grayson's house right?" He stuttered out.
I nodded.
He took a deep breathe and what he said made me want to puke.
