A New Life

I walked over to my bedroom door and shut it gently. I turned and walked over to my bed. I sat down and took a deep breath. It was November 6th, 2022. The release of the brand new VRMMORPG game, Sword Art Online. Created by Akihiko Kayaba. I had to wait in line for hours to actually purchase the game itself. The NerveGear was a struggle to get as well. I was finally ready to get into this new world, where I could start fresh. It was a new life for me. 

My name Taeisu Misaki and I'm 16 years old. I live almost on the outskirts of Tokyo with my mom and my younger brother Kyo. What do I mean by.. a new life? In my school, I'm constantly alone. I'm not one to be liked. No matter what I do, it's as if I'm invisible. But that's why I got the game.

As soon as I heard a game like SAO was being released, my heart was filled with joy. An escape, my own world, a new life. I felt as if I needed it. It wasn't just a want. 

Somehow, out of the 10,000 people to get the game, I was one of them. I wasn't lucky enough to be a beta tester though. If I was, that would have been a miracle.

I held my NerveGear, palms sweaty. "A new life..." I felt my cheeks grow warm. I smiled. 

I brushed my brunette hair with red tips back. My pale skin glistening in the sun. I gently slid the NerveGear onto my head. I laid back onto my bed, getting comfortable. "This is it Taeisu." I sighed. I slowly closed my brown eyes. I opened them again. I took a deep breath, starting to shake.

"Why am I nervous..? This is what I want.." I stared at my ceiling. 

"No. I'm doing this. No going back." I grinned and shut my eyes. "Let's do this."

"Link start!" 

Suddenly everything was moving. I was going into the virtual world. 

Touch. OK.

Sight. OK

Hearing. OK.

Taste. OK.

Smell. OK.

I entered my name.

I was brought to a character customization screen, my favorite part to most games. I gave myself long white hair and crystal blue eyes. I kept my pale skin. I was given the starter gear, which I chose to be a lavender color and a basic sword. I stared at myself. I was perfect. I smiled and reached out, to touch my reflection. "Hello, Tae."

Everything went black. Words flashed in front of me. 

"Welcome to Sword Art Online!"

Then, before I could react, I was teleported through into the world. I looked around. There were people everywhere. People, logging in within blue mist, having the same excited reaction as me. I spun around, taking in my surroundings. I was in the Town of Beginnings!

"Hell yeah! This is amazing!" I grinned ear to ear. I felt my cheeks growing warm and my eyes were glistening. Everyone was talking and laughing. Some already running off to fight and to buy gear.

I started to walk around slowly, still looking at everything I could, when a guy with red hair pushed by me. I swerved to remain from falling. "Hey- watch it!" I growled. He came to a halt. "I'm sorry..." He looked to me, for a name. He was smiling, even though I had come off rude. The man's red hair was past his shoulders and he wore a bandanna around his forehead. His skin was white and his eyes were a reddish brown. He had a scruffy chin. 

"Taeis- Uh- Tae. Yours?" I crossed my arms. Almost just revealed my name, great.

"My name is Klein- wait- your a girl! I'm so sorry! Please forgive me!" He begged, panicking. Sweat rolled down his cheek.
