*requested : DancingWithSebastian*"Hey Nolan? Honey?" I asked, walking into our shared bedroom.
"Yeah baby girl?" He quizzed, walking out of the restroom with his toothbrush hanging out of his mouth.
"I got my pictures back from that wedding dress shoot I did. Do you want to see them?" I spoke, sitting on our bed, pulling my laptop to me.
"Sure. Why not?" Nolan sounded less than enthusiastic, but I let it slide.
I pulled up my email and clicked the file with the pictures. A friend of mine had just opened a wedding parlor and I offered to be the model for the dresses.
"This dress is by far my favorite. If we ever get married, this is going to be my dress." A smile formed on my face from ear to ear. The dress is a light champagne lac and tulle boho dress, a slit down the middle of my abdomen and back.
"Isn't it gorgeous? The shoes were nude heels but that doesn't matter because you can't see them. The fit was perfe-" I was cut off by Nolan slipping his shoes on his feet.
"I'm gonna go to the field and get some batting practice done. I love you." He placed a quick kiss on my lips and was quickly out the door. I sighed softly, closing my laptop and leaning against the headboard.
This wasn't the first time Nolan has just up and left in the middle of any wedding talk. We've been together for almost 6 years, and I'm ready for the next step. I'm ready for a wedding and kids and to continue my life with Nolan, but he's acting like he doesn't want any of that. He says he's open to having kids now, and that he believes we are ready for kids. But marriage, that's a whole different topic.
I've decided that enough is enough. I slide on a pair of sandals and drive to the ball park. We were going to have this conversation now and that was that.
The drive to the ball park was full of me scripting what I was going to tell Nolan when I saw him. When I got to the ball park, I quickly put the car in park and made my way to the field.
"Nolan James!" I yelled, coming up from the dugout, making my way towards him. I watched as he hit a ball as hard as he could before using his bat to lean on and look at me.
"Hear me out," I spoke, standing in front of him with my arms crossed against my chest. "If you don't want to get married, it's whatever. Just tell me. You gave me a promise ring on our third anniversary. Do you know what that symbolized to me? It said to me that we'd get married one day. But, no. Here we are six years in our relationship and you're ready for kids, but not marriage. Kids are a bigger commitment than marriage. I-"
"I'm scared! Okay, Rachel? I'm terrified. I've seen so many baseball players getting divorced. And that's always in the back of mind. I want to marry you, I really do. I'm just scared of losing you because I'm gone for weeks at a time, sometimes. I'm scared to come home from a roadtrip and see that you and our future kids up and left because of my busy schedule. I'm not scared of marriage, I'm scared of losing you." He spoke, dropping his bat.
I sniffled and ran over, jumping into his arms. My arms wrapping around him as if my life depended on him to keep me afloat.
"I love you so much. I'm willing to be by your side forever." I spoke, hiding my face in his neck.
"I love you more. So much more than I can put into words. And I want to marry you, I do. " He spoke, setting me down and pulling back, reaching into his pocket. My eyes widened as he pulled a ring from his pocket, kneeling down infront of me.
"Rachel, will you marry me?" He asked, tears brimming in his eyes.
"Yes!" I exclaimed, cupping Nolan's cheeks and kissing him.
He slid the ring on my finger, kissing my hand after.
"This isn't at all what I had planned. I was gonna have the guys here and a video playing on the scoreboard. Maybe after a game? Or before a game it-" I cut him off with a kiss.
"It's perfect. I love you, Mr. Arenado." I smiled, resting my forehead against his.
"I love you, future Mrs. Arenado. And I can't wait to see you in that wedding dress walking down the aisle."
