Run.
That was the only thought on my mind, the one thought that kept pushing me foreward. I held tightly on Alex's arm as she coughed trying to push me off. Jack stood in front of us weapons drawn eyes full of rage at the strangers in front of us.
I wonder if not listening is just a habit, I flash my eyes up jerking my head. I set Alex down gently as I stand up with Jack at the approaching strangers, he tries to get me to run but I stay stubbornly next to him.
Jack looks at me as I nod towards him telling him we need to attack them, head on. There were about ten or so strangers, all snarling ready to attack. The front one stares at me a crazed look in its eyes, yet it looked lost. It's eyes were milky white, peices of flesh had fallen off and others were rotting away.
"Jack. Take her, go back." He looked ready to argue and opened his mouth to do so, but I silenced him with a stern glare. He backed away taking her to safety, as I returned my attention to my current problem.
I dragged my machete along the ground making an unbearable noice, but neither side seemed to notice. I lift it up placing both hands on the hilt and thrust it into the nearest stranger. That seemed to panic the others, some running at almost full speed towards me. I form a firmer grip on my machete's hilt and get in stance, staring dead on at the strangers.
The closed one I cut neatly across the neck, the second I sloppily slice across the chest. The second comes up behind me and digs it's feet into the ground as it jumps, a spin around cutting straight down the skull this time.
Soon three more come rushing towards me, two missing both arms one missing a leg. I kick the one without it a leg in its remaining limb and it falls, I slice the other two quickly. Then I drive my sword into the legless's head. I spin cutting down another set of two, then turn to face the few remaining. I try to cut them as quickly as possible, but was too reckless as one quickly jumps, scratching my side. I fell down catching myself on my elbows.
I stand up leaning on my weapon, as I limp towards the last remaining enemy. I cut it jabbing it's face. I sigh in relief as I looked at the scattered bodies along the ground. I bend down as I stick my hand into one of the disgusting rotting pockets of the body and find a wallet. I examine the contents of the wallet, it had a driver's license, fifty dollars, and a credit card. I put the wallet into my pocket and limp back to the fort, holding the driver's license and reading it to myself.
"Dustin Erist, twenty-five. He died so young." I sigh as I put the license back into the pocket. I finally see the outline of and fence and luckily it's the entrance. I lean against the wall panting, hoping that Jack and Alex made it back safely. I wave to the guard as I fall, seeing Jack race towards me. I smile knowing I'm safe at least for now as I fall down, thinking about the time leading up to this.
- Flashback -
I looked around my plain and boring room as I got up and ready for school. Why does nothing exciting happen to me? I sighed at my thought as I ran out to catch the bus. I looked around and said hello to my friends at the bus stop. The bus came a couple minutes later, and I sat where I always sat.
"Morning Griffin." I yawned as I turn to the smiling blonde.
"Good moring!" He was so happy I couldn't help but be confused.
"What did you win the lottery?"
"Nope."
"So your happy why...?"
"The big tests are today, and I know I'll ace them!" I groaned as today was a horrible day, as usual. We had tests in most of our classes for the whole week. The bus came to a quick unexpected stop causing me to get my head slammed into the seat I front of me.
