"So are you saying that James is completely normal. I mean, he's mentally stable?"
"Yes, he is perfectly fine without any medical issues."
The young female lawyer solely nodded her head at his response allowing a few strands of her brown hair to frame her face. "So Mr Smith is it logical for a perfectly normal person to harass, and brutally rape a girl, when they have never met in order to hold a grudge or hatred?"
The old man held his silence, watching the young woman with pure hatred.
"Please do answer me, Mr Smith. Is it possible or not?"
"There is no reason for a normal person to kill someone who they have never encountered." Mr Smith finally muttered after a few moments of silence.
"So then tell me, Mr Smith. Why is it that James Brown is being labelled as a criminal for the rape, and the death of Lucy Gwin when they have never met each other before?" Mr Smith clenched his jaw and glared at the young lawyer in front of him who was clearly enjoying her job right now.
She turned to face the judge that sat high in his chair, listening on with interest "Your Honour, James Brown, and Lucy Gwin has never met till the date, 16 May 2014. On the day James had just moved into his new apartment that was straight opposite Lucy's apartment and was about to call it a night when he heard squealing and screaming from the next room, although he was worried he left it. The next day James went to check on her, he was greeted by an open door and walked in to find a trail of blood from the living room to the kitchen where Lucy's naked bloody body was. Covered with deep brutally wounds around her thighs, arms, and torso, she suffered from a great amount of blood loss and was unresponsive. James tried to help her, but unfortunately, Lucy's friend Jasmine misunderstood his intention and called the cops on him."
"Miss Lawerence, if it as you say, and James is not the murder. Did you ever stop to think, about why James didn't immediately check when he heard all the noise at night?" Mr Barker, the prosecutor questioned. He adjusted his round specs, as he looked through his notes which unfortunately have nothing against this young lawyer.
"Mr Baker, the tenants that live there are all young adults. Hearind loud noises in the middle of the night, is somewhat expected and normal. Moreover, Lucy was quite well known in her campus for being an easy girl to get to. CCTV footages show many people being brought into her room. As a matter of fact, I wonder if she got raped in the first place," A challenging smirk rose on her face as she spared the prosecutor a small glance.
"How would you say that about my daughter! She's nothing like that. I'm sure it's him, he raped and killed her!" Lucy's Mother screamed out from the court seats pointing accusing fingers towards James.
"Mrs Gwin this is a courtroom, please do behave yourself." The young lawyer replied with a calm tone, politely smiling at the furious mother.
"You B***h how could you say that about her. She's never slept with a guy before, she was still a virgin!" Lucy's mother stood up ready to attack when her husband quick held her back in place and consoled her.
"Okay, so you are saying she lost her virginity to James, when she was raped?"Once again the young lawyer nodded her head and walked over to her table and picked up a file. "This is Lucy's autopsy report. It says she was 3 months pregnant. Clearly, Lucy wasn't so innocent as you, her parents think. Need I go on?"
"No! Stop! I don't want to carry on with the investigation. Please leave my daughter alone, leave her respect alone," Mrs Gwin once again broke down into tears as she begged the lawyer to leave her deceased daughter alone.
"Mr Gwin please make your wife understand that because of your daughter, James's name has been ruined. How will you compensate for his loss of respect? How do you plan to give back the time he has wasted while dealing with this case" The young lawyer turned to face the Judge once again "Lucy Gwin's rape and death have nothing to do with my client James who is innocent in this case."
The screen froze then turned black, and the people who were watching the video looked at each other in wonder.
"You said she was in her first year when this happened. Man, she's absolutely ruthless."
"Wasn't this case meant to be hopeless for the guy? I thought they were gonna imprison him."
"Yep, now 27, she's the best lawyer out there, and the very one we need. Verena Lawrence"
