The Waffle Maker

It started when the subject of waffles was brought up. My friends and I were just lounging around, having a picnic (literally) on a nice, warm sunny day of Augest.

"Mmmm," Jenny commented as the sunshine bathed us.

"I know, right?" Marie agreed.

"Well, this is undoubtedly delightful picnic," said Riley, smiling.

"I want a waffle." I pouted.

"No one cares," Chase remarked.

"No one cares about you," I hissed back. Chase rolled his eyes at me to show he really didn't care. I aimed a kick at him; he dodged it easily.

"Well, I want a waffle now," Josh said wistfully.

"YEAH!! POW!!" Jeremy shouted to no one in particular. As per usual, he was playing video games on his beloved Nintendo. I squinted at him in annoyence, but didn't comment.

Chase caught my expression and warned me, "Don't you start!" I was seething with anger.

"I wasn't going to!"

"Yeah, you were."

"It's a free country!"

"Hey, what about the waffles?" Andrea persisted.

"Anyone want a cookie?" Jenny offers.

"I still want the waffles!" I yelled, distracted for the moment. I thought again for half a millisecond. "I'll also take the cookies!"

"Hey, I want one, too!" Riley beseeched Jenny.

We filled up on Jenny's homemade cookies for quite awhile. For about 15 minutes, all you could here were these disgusting chomping noises. Eventually, they did die off.

"Hey, anyone wanna come with me to the store to buy a waffle maker?" I offered, after we finished the delicious chocolate chip cookies.

"Sure!" Jenny agreed.

"Count me in!" Marie exclaimed.

"Hey, wait for me!" Andrea demanded.

"How about we all go?" Riley suggested thoughtfully.

"Ugh, do we all have to?" Jeremy whines.

"Why do we have to go?" Chase complained, annoyed.

"We're all going!" I commanded, "The majority of us want a waffle so hush up!"

A muted silence followed my annoucement. Chase and Jeremy grudgingly stood up and unhooked themselves from their electronics to go.

We arrived at Sears to buy a waffle maker, like a half an hour later. It took us another hour to find the Small Appliences section. All and all, it was a really rough journey to get to there.

"Well, this waffle maker is only 100 bucks..." Riley trailed off.

"That's cheap," Andrea commented, grinning.

"That's expensive!" Jeremy objected.

"I want the Sony brand!" Chase demanded. He waved a silver waffle maker at us.

"I heard Sony is cool and popular," Marie pipped up.

"My sister likes their video games," Jenny added.

"Guys," I said slowly, "Does Sony even make waffle makers?"

"This one is 40 dollars." Jenny confirmed, holding a waffle maker that looked similar to one of those really old pink plastic Barbie computers.

"That's still pricey." Jeremy raised his eyebrows. I mentally facepalmed.

"I still want the Sony brand," whined Chase.

"Well, I want a waffle, Chase" Josh complained.

"Do you want some waaaa-terrrr?" asked Chase jokingly. (Inside joke)

"I want a pie," Maren requested

"I want an animal play pen, the exclusive kind!" Amanda grinned.

"STOP! NO ONE IS BUYING A WAFFLE MAKER, A PIE, OR A PLAYPEN!! I JUST REALIZED I HAVE ONE IN THE ATTIC" Riley screamed. A short silence followed.

"You just realized that?" Josh snapped sarcastically, annoyed.

"Well, sorry!" Riley hissed back.

"I still want a waffle, so how about we GO BACK AND MAKE SOME!" I yelled

"I want my Kindle Fire!!" Jeremy necessitated. Riley hesitated. "How about we go to my house and just dig out my waffle maker and make some waffles?"

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea," Marie agreed.

We rushed back to Riley's home from Sears and rumaged for the waffle maker.

"This is stupid," Jeremy commented. Josh pulled out a kids' toilet and snickered.

"Ewwww! A spider!" I shrieked, my arachnophobia getting to me. Chase grinned and held it up close to my face. I then had a near freak-out.

"YOU JERK! GET IT AWAY FROM ME!" I screamed.

"SHUT UP AND SUCK IT UP!" Josh yelled.

"FOUND IT!" Riley shouted, triumphantly holding a dusty white waffle maker. Ten minutes later, we were all gathered in Riley's kitchen, some of us getting ingredients to make a waffle, others just idling around.

"I CAN'T FIND THE FREAKING MILK!" I shouted.

"IT WON'T TURN ON!" Marie fumed.

"WHERE ARE THE FORKS?" Andrea yelled.

"I CAN'T FIND THE MANUAL!!" Riley screamed.

"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THIS!" Jeremy voiced. Josh rolled his eyes, half exasperated. Strangely enough, everyone shut up for the next half and hour or so. Chase located the milk, I showed Andrea where the forks were, and Riley and Marie found the manual and turned it on.

"They're done," Riley announced, after a short while.

"I hope they're good!" I responded, joyfully giving a little skip. Riley and I dished them up on her white plates. We all sat down and took a small bite of the waffles.

"Yuck!" Josh spat out.

"Ugh!" Chase said, grossed out.

"Eww!!" Riley spluttered.

"They taste like burned rubber!" I commented distastefully. Marie agreed, scratching her tongue. Jenny stood up and ran over the the garbage can.

"Disgusting," Andrea frowned.

So, instead, we made pancakes and ate them.
