Chapter 1 - The Outbreak
20 years after the incident
It's day 102 in the slammer. Charged with attempted murder...why did they even build a prison? It's such an ignorant decision. If you're wondering, I'm Sacier. I was framed for the attempted murder of Drang, a head director in the Council. I was in the room working as a janitor. They said something like, uh...they had a minor spill they needed to have cleaned. I was cleaning and then the double doors opened and a gun shot went off. I looked behind me in shock, trying to gain an understanding of what just happened and the man had a hoodie on. The hood was covering his face and he threw the gun in my hands. I had the gun, quickly dropped it and the Royal Guard came in a minute after it happened. They pointed at me when the Royal Guard asked what happened and I was arrested without any evidence of it except the fingerprints on the gun.
So now I'm in here for 20 years. Sucks to be me. It's so boring in here and it's gonna be boring for the next 20 years. I lie down on the hard and rocky bed and dream of what could've happened if I didn't hold the gun or if I had gloves on. I just wish I could change the outcome. Reset what happened. Reset the day. I can't do that, though. And what's the point in dreaming if it will never come true?
Suddenly, I hear an explosion below my floor and it shakes the whole building. I quickly look out the window and see guns being fired along with a giant hole in front of the prison. The inmates are pouring out of the building. What the hell just happened? I look at my cell door to realize it's wide open. I step out of my cell and look around. There's no one here anymore. I run downstairs and I'm stopped by an abundance of inmates stuck on the stairwell. All I want to do is get the hell out of here. I also want to know who blew the front of the prison up. In the heat of the moment, I get elbowed in the face by a skinny and terrified looking monster. In anger, I pull him back from the other inmates and punch him square in the face and he's immediately knocked out. My decision had an effect on everyone else, it appears as all the inmates are fighting each other now. As everyone is distracted, I sprint as fast as a monster can out of the prison and away.
I run until I can't hear gunfire any longer. I find myself at an apartment complex in Hotland. It has my apartment in it. I open the door and take the stairs to the 3rd floor and I twist the knob. Forgot that I was stripped of my keys. I kick the door knob and the door flies wide open. I slam the door shut and sit against the door as if I'm trying to keep something out. I think to myself for a moment...I just escaped prison. Now, I have to stay in hiding for the rest of my life. I look at my door mirror and see what prison can do to you. I have a full prison jumper on and I look like I haven't shaved all my life. My blue eyes still shine bright, though. That's always what my mother told me, that my eyes always shine bright no matter what happened. What a cheesy thing to say.
I wait a couple of days to see what would happen, if they were searching for me yet or not. Lucky me, I get a knock on my door. I go up to my door and look through the peephole.
"Sacier? You here? It's your old pal Kenny," the voice said from the other side of the door.
"Kenny who?" I ask.
"Kenny McGhee," he answered.
"Kenny McGhee? I haven't heard that name in years. No, you can't be. Kenny died from the virus years ago. What kind of fool do you take me to be?"
