Its not what it seems

It was just a normal morning in Jacksonville, Florida.

Then I hear the sound every teenager dreads.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

The alarm.

I hit snooze at least 4 times before I finally got up.

I sat up and sent my Snapchat streaks like I do every morning.

Then, I went to my closet, still half asleep, and looked for an outfit.

I picked out a yellow crop top

And short jean shorts.

I went to the bathroom to do my makeup and ran down the stairs.

I looked at the clock. 7:12 am.

Shit. Class starts at 7:20.

I quickly grabbed a random thing out of the pantry and slipped on my sandals.

I bolted out the door and into the car waiting for me at the end of my driveway

I bolted out the door and into the car waiting for me at the end of my driveway.

"Took you long enough babe," said Ace, chuckling.

"Sorry! I hit snooze a few too many times...again," I say apologetically.

"No worries, I'll just step on it."

5 minutes later we arrived at school and walked in.

The bell rings right as we step foot in the door. Of course, my class is on the other side of the building.

I ran down the halls, shoving people through the massive place.

I made it just in time and sat down in my seat.

Hours of torcher later, the final bell rings and I meet Ace at his car.

He gave me a quick peck on the lips and started the car.

"So, how was your day?" He asked.

"Oh, same ol', Boring crap," I complain.

"Only a few more months. We can do it."

He always had a way of making me feel better about things, about myself. That's what I loved most about him.

Then, that's when I notice his phone buzz. It wouldn't be anything different, except this time he quickly grabbed his phone to look at it.

We were already on the road and he knows how I feel about texting and driving stuff, so he tries not to do it.

But, for the first time in years, he has.  What changed?

I just thought maybe there is a family emergency or something, but he never told me anything.  He always tells me everything.

I try to get a glance at what the message was, but he grabbed it too quickly.

Then, he got a phone call.

It was one of those things where the phone hooks up to the car and you can hear the call throughout the vehicle.

He answered because it didn't say the contact name, just the number.  Frankly, he's bad at memorizing numbers.  We've dating for almost 4 years now and he sometimes even forgets mine.

When he picked up, he said "hello?"

On the other end there's a girl that says in a sing song voice "heyyy aceyy waceyy!!"

I froze.

He hangs up quickly and starts driving faster.

"I thought I was the only one that you allow to call you that," I say sternly and irritated.

"Uh yeah you are, must be the wrong number..." he tried to lie.

"Nobody calls a random number and say a random name that HAPPENS to be the persons name and HAPPENS to be the nickname that his girlfriend calls him," I start to raise my voice.

"Babe-" he starts
"Don't call me babe."
"It's not what it seems...."
