Crystal clear

Chapter 1

Torins POV

     Running through the forest, baby sister in hand, traumatized with tears streaming down my face. I pick up speed to make sure I got away from me and my sister's terrible fate that awaited us. A brief image of my parents bloodied and mangled bodies flash before my eyes. Fat tears flow down my face freely as I try to forget the horrific scene. 'Mama ... Papa, I'm so sorry, I was too weak to save you, but rest assured ill protect Hwa-young with my life ... I promise. 

     As soon as the thought leaves my mind I'm abruptly snatched by the collar of my shirt, by none other then an adult body with animal appendages like my own, a sinister grin plastered to his face. "why look at what I've found" he whispered in my ear as his filthy hands went to rip my sister away from me.

"No!!" I woke up in a cold sweat, out of breath and feeling the effects of my nightmare. 'Why am I still haunted by these horrific memories that happened years ago.' I sigh and shake my head as a way of getting rid of these vivid thoughts, then began to start my morning routine.

I go into a cat-like stretch on top of the mound of pillows in the small space I call my room. Although my room is only a tiny place under the stairs covered by a thin curtain. I get up out of my corner and traverse to my sister's side of the small house. I tap on the ladder leading up to her space "Hwa-young wake-up sweetie, its time to get ready for school." After my short announcement, I make way to the stove to start breakfast 'Dang it, our pantry is empty and we can't afford to go grocery shopping right now.' I sigh heavily and decide its better to just go take a shower instead.

A few minutes later I emerge from the bathroom, squeaky clean and lightly dressed for the cool weather. Wearing a pastel pink sweater, light washed jeans, and white tenny shoes to match, I sigh in contempt as I no longer feel dirty. I take the towel that's hanging around my neck and gently dry the hair that surrounds my small black and white ears, causing squeaks of delight from the pleasurable feeling, I close my eyes as my tail starts slowly swaying from side to side in bliss.

Though I'm soon pulled out of my trance like state, from a small pressure making an impact into my own body. My eyes glance down to make out the sleepy form of my little sister, one of her hands full of clothes and the other wiping sleep out of her eyes. "Toto-Oppa mooove, you're blocking the door to the bathroom" I let out a chuckle and step to the side. "sorry shortcake, I made your bath already" she let out a tiny huff and made way into the bathroom.

I took this as a chance to pack Hwa-young the last of the leftovers for her lunch and made sure both of our bags were ready to go. by the time she had finished her routine and came out of the bathroom, I was already waiting at the door, bag in hand. she takes her backpack and her plush bunny Ku that I had already set by the door the night before. With a big smile, she puts on her blue beret and reaches out for my hand. I smile back and return the gesture, soon we were off on our conquest to the bus stop.

we trail the path in the forest down to the bus stop, I take a glance at my sister and see the sunlight glitter off our mothers necklace that hangs around her neck. My eyes glance upwards toward the sky to see dawn just approaching. 'ah if we don't speed up our pace we'll miss the bus into the city' with that thought I quicken my pace and usher my sister along with me.

As the old rickety bus stop came into view I pulled out my fathers small pocket watch 'just in time any sooner and we would have been waiting hours for another city bus.' I put away the watch and hum a long forgotten toon as I enjoy the crisp morning air. "okay Hwa-young the bus will be here any minute now, do you remember what to do when we get out into hybrid society" I stated in a firm tone. although the crack in my voice betrayed me. "yep I sure do Toto-oppa" she slightly giggles and pulls at the straps of her backpack. "Ya, repeat it silly" I giggle along with her.
