I stared up at the sign just above the door leading into the Army Recruits Centre. This was it. No looking back.

I let out a breath that I didn't realise I was holding and went through the doors.

I entered a reception area with everything, not surprisingly, having that army theme. The Union Jack flag on multiple walls with quotes above each one from famous people or inspirational speeches. There were also portraits of men and women under the title 'Our most honourable'. I guess those were the people that we were suppose to look up to. They must of done something pretty incredible to have such high praise. I wondered what it would be like to be recognised as someone with honour and respect. To be treated as an equal. I lowered my head at my last years of existence.

I snapped myself out of my self pity to look at the multiple of people sitting in the waiting room. Some were dressed in different army uniforms according to their job and rank. Others wore plain clothing, either family or new recruits like myself. Again, a familiar feeling as sadness washed over me knowing that none of my family would be sitting in those sets.

New recruit I reminded myself. I realised that I had stopped for a few seconds to take in this new surrounding. Feeling a little self conscious I quickly made my way up to the reception box where a greying middle aged man sat typing away at his computer. He looked up and smiled as I came closer to the one way window.

"New recruit I presume?" He had a hint of a Yorkshire accent when he spoke. "Yes sir" I replied with a slight smile, an uncommon thing for me.

He bent down and came back with a slip of paper labelled 'Recruitment Form' and passed it through the slip at the bottom of the window. "Fill out the form and hand it back once your done" He indicates to the waiting room. "Take any seat you like" I took the form and uttered a quick "thanks" before taking a seat away from everyone.

It was a standard form run of the mill form asking for all if the regular details; Name, age, forces experience, all that crap. Then there questions refering to physical and mental status as well as your thought about The army and whatnot. I paused at the emergency family section. Do I add Grace's name or just keep it blank. Would she even care if I went? After a bit of deliberation I added her contacts and filled out the rest of the form. I mean if I did die at some point then she should know about it, even if she didn't care.

I returned to form to the front desk snd smiled slightly at the guy at the desk. He took the form back. "OK, now I'm going to have ask you to go into the hall to your right and enter the second door. Dr. Lingard should will be waiting to do your medical check up and we can go from there." I responded with a simple thank you before going down the hall.

I stood infront of the plain white door and knocked three times before hearing a female "come in".

I pushed the door inward to find a basic medical examination room. A high bed with draws to one side. On the wall were your typical posters about health and some more specific like army fitness levels and other things. My eyes travelled to the women who was Dr. Lingard. She had blond hair that was tied to a professional bun, green eyes with glasses. Her facial features were of normal preportion and wore a white lab coat with C cup breasts visable. She looked around 5'7 (I am 5'10) but it was hard to tell when she was sitting down.

I stepped fully inside the room, closing the door behind me. She stood up and came towards me. I was right about her height after all. She shook my hand. "Ms. Stark I presume"

"Yes ma'am"

"Good. I'm going to ask you to hop on the bed so I can do a thorough exam."

I complied and sat on the bed. She did the regular of checking pulse and blood pressure as well as my checking blood type. "AB-, now that's something we dont see everyday." she said before chuckling a bit. It was true, having the rarest blood type was rare meaning that I was always up for donation whenever possible. The tests continued for a good 10 minutes. It was funny to see her reaction when she asked to pull my trousers down to see a bulge in my pants.

Yes everyone, I have a dick, get over it.

After she got over her shock, she asked me to stand to get my height (5'10 as already mentioned) and my weight of 140lb. What can I say, I'm muscular.

After everything was done she typed away at her computer for a good five minutes while I just sat in the chair opposite her desk. She voice pulled me out of my head.

"Well everything seems to be in order. I've updated your records as well as added you onto the donor program incase of any of your colligues needing a transfusion." I just nodded my head in return. "Since I'm done, go back to the desk where we can get you scheduled for training." I rose from my seat and shook her hand before exiting the room.

I returned to the recuits desk only to meet the same greying guy as before who smiled yet again. Everyone in this place smiled. "Now the earliest bus leaving for training is tomorrow but I could- " I interrupted him "I'll get that one thanks" He looked a bit taken back but quickly recovered. "Right... if that is what you want then it leaves at oh seven hundred hours (07:00)." "That will be fine" I flashed him a smile in confirmation and waited while he arranged the booking. I found that I was always waiting for something. After what seemed like a very time he gave me a slip of paer that had my name, bus number and seat as well as other documents.

I grabbed them, said as quick goodbye before walking home to pack myself for a long journey.
