"Fuck" I whispered under my breath, looking out my window and into the snow. I shut my eyes briefly, mentally groaning. I grabbed my coat off the hook and placed it on, opening the front door.
I stepped out into the brisk air, almost slipping on the ice beneath me. Snow was definitely my least favourite weather. It's just so unnecessary.
I eventually make my way to the diner and stepped inside. The bell rang above my head as the warm air hit my face. I smiled warmly and headed to the back.
I removed my coat and replaced it with a red apron, covering my white shirt and blue jeans. I stepped back into the diner and discreetly scanned the place. A few waitresses were already taking orders, and some were making coffee.
I spot two boys sitting across from each other, their menus closed in front of them. I shrugged and grabbed a pad and pen, heading over to the table.
"Hello, are you guys ready to order?"

"Two English breakfasts, please." Shawn spoke with a small smile as he closed his menu. I wrote down their order and thanked them both as they handed me their menus.
"Do you want anything to drink with that?" I asked. Shawn looked over at Lydia as she nodded.
"Can I have a coffee, please?" She asked sweetly. I nodded and jotted it down. Shawn told me he didn't want a drink so I took both their menus and gave their orders to the cook.
I watched as Shawn and Lydia laughed at each other's jokes. The way Shawns eyes would light up at the sound of her voice, or the way she would stare intently at him as he spoke. I smiled at the two when my thoughts were interrupted by my coworker - and close friend -Jeff.
"Two English breakfasts." He called out, placing them in front of me. I snapped out of my daze and thanked him quietly. "New couple, eh?" He asked with a smirk, nodding in the direction of Shawn. I simply shrugged and grabbed the plates of food.
"I guess so," I responded. He chuckled at me and shook his head.
Jeff was around his late 20s. He had sleek, black hair that was always styled to perfection. He had stubble on his jaw and chin, which framed his face. He was undeniably attractive; but when you've been working with someone for almost two years, you learn to get over that. He's now more of a brother to me, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
"It's rude to stare." He muttered from behind me. I hadn't even realised that I was staring right at their table from behind the counter. I rolled my eyes and cleared my throat, walking over to the two.
"Two English breakfasts?" I smiled and placed them both in front of them.
"Thanks, Kenzie. Remind me to tip you today," Shawn said, grabbing a fork.
"Feeling generous?" I asked him with a small raise of my eyebrows.
"That depends on your service." He shot back, pointing his fork in my direction. I chuckled and told them both to enjoy their meal before turning and walking back to the counter.
"Finally got over him?" Jeff asked, startling me slightly.
"Over him?" I scoffed while grabbing a cloth and wiping the table. "I was never under him," I spoke, realising how stupid I sounded.
"Keep telling yourself that, love." He smirked and walked into the back room. I shook my head at him and carried on cleaning.
"Hey, Kenzie." I looked up to see Shawn beaming down at me. I wiped my hands on my apron and threw the cloth into the sink.
"Hey, Shawn. Where did Lydia go?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.
"She had to leave, family emergency." He said with a shrug. I nodded understandingly as Jeff appeared.
"Shawn, my man!" He boomed excitedly. Shawn smiled widely and nodded his head.
"Jeff, hows it going?" Shawn asked. Jeff grinned and nodded, placing his hands on his hips.
"It's been going great," he responded. They both had a conversation that I wasn't really apart of, so I headed over to an empty table and wiped it clean.
"Sh," Jeff whispered to Shawn, as their conversation slowly died down. I furrowed my eyebrows at the two and stood between them.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. They both exchanged glances before looking back at me.
"Nothing," they both responded at the same time. I sighed and shook my head at the two, deciding to drop the subject.
"Of course," I responded sarcastically. Shawn cleared his throat before standing up and grabbing his coat.
"I'm off now," he spoke, checking the time on his watch. "I'll see you both later," he smiled, waving at us both as he exited the cafe.
"You two are really strange together," I observed. Jeff tutted at me and placed his hand over his heart.
"Ouch, Kenzie. That one hurt."
