"what a plot twist

you were."

***

luna was mad.

really mad.

sitting in an empty café at 5:30 in the morning wasn't her ideal way of starting the day. business was always slow during opening shifts and she couldn't help but think of all the possible things she would rather be doing right now.

but unfortunately for her, she needed the money, and her dear manager refused to make things easier for her.

while her eyes slowly gave into her cravings for sleep, the jingle of the front door abruptly woke her up just as she drifted off.

a boy.

a boy walked in.

black hoodie and black pants, with messy hair that fell over his forehead. his eyes were solely focused on his phone as he walked over.

she clears her throat. "good morning, how can i help you?"

he doesn't even spare her a glance.

"one vanilla latte. regular."

"is that all for today?"

he nods.

"that'll be 4.45 dollars."

he switches his phone off and reaches into the pocket of his pants. he pulls out his hand curled into a fist as he holds it out to luna.

she opens her palm as he drops about 25 individual cent coins into her hand.

she furrows her eyebrows and sighs and she places the coins down onto the counter top and begins counting.

she looks back up to him slightly uncomfortable as she realises he had averted his focus back to his phone and was furiously typing.

"um. sir"

he hms in response.

"you're a dollar short."

he freezes as he looks back up at her.

his body slackens as he avoids eye contact.

"i-"

"i don't have anymore."

luna stares, unsure of what to respond.

he looks back up to her, his eyes filled with a strange emotion she couldn't seem to comprehend.

"cancel the order," he simply states, and begins walking away.

"damnit felix, why didn't you count the tips before you walked in." she hears him mutter under his breath.

luna's heart unwillingly feels slight remorse at his statements and body language.

i mean, its only a dollar right?

"wait!" she calls out, just as he's about to leave.

"i'll pay for you."
