it's a beautiful day outside.

birds are singing.

flowers are blooming.

on days like these, kids like you...

should be burning in hell.

"it's finally happening!" she shrieked as she prepared herself for the fight.

yes, she was playing a video game.

her favourite video game to be exact.

"damn it!" she groaned for the hundredth time, almost pulling her hair out at the difficulty of the boss. i mean, she had seen so many youtubers struggle but she didn't think it was that hard.

shatter

the disappointing sound of the game over song played and lyra almost lost it at that.

luckily, her brother was at work so he hadn't complained of the loud noise yet.

step. step.

she hadn't noticed yet, but...

"what are you doing?!" he yelled at her, eyes fuming with rage. "you said you were studying! you have a test and it's in two days!"

"b-but, it's a maths test and it's on geometry!" she stuttered, realising that she had talked back.

"did you just talk back to me?" he snarled, face practically unreadable at that point.

slap.

hit after hit, she took every blow of it.

once he had left, she went out of the game and started reading about equations and problems that she had already learnt at age 9. except something was different.

the paper was wet and her eyes were not full of passion like they would be when she was doing maths.

her eyes were filled with sorrow.
