Independence day?

Why would he care about that?

Why celebrate the day you're most hated?

Alfred hated his Independence day, which was ironic because everyone thought he loved it so.

Alfred loved Canada day. It was his older brothers birthday. Why wouldn't he love it?

Alfred threw a big party every year for his brother, Matthew, to celebrate with all the countries who could see him. So sometimes it was just the two of them, but they still enjoyed the day.

For Alfreds birthday there was nothing special for him.

His citizens threw grand parades. There were cookouts, and pot lucks. There was always a giant fair or party somewhere in every neighborhood, sometimes there was even both. The best part, most people would say, is the fireworks.

The giant bursts of fiery colors going up in every direction. It was an amazing sight, but Alfred always had to see it alone.

"Great a meeting," Alfred said sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Go get insulted about my independence. Then get insulted about not helping France, next to my debt, and lastly my weight. Fun."

He rolled out of bed and pulled on his uniform, though he didn't put on his beloved bomber jacket. He didn't want to overheat in it.

After he finished getting dressed he messily fixed his hair, then walked out to the living room.

"Bye Tony."

"Bitch, fucking."

"Love ya too."

With that, Alfred walked out the door and slowly to the meeting hall.

While he was waking he passed a Starbucks and went in and got a venti cafe latte. Alfred downed it within five minutes, helping him wake up.

By the time he reached the meeting building, it was 2:25. He was five minutes early.

When he walked inside he headed to the front desk and asked the lady there for directions.

"Hello. Do you know where room 315 is?"

The lady smiled and nodded, "It's on the third floor the left, Sir."

"Thank you."

The lady nodded, "Anytime, it is my job. Have a good Fourth of July!"

Alfred sighed and nodded to her. He walked to the elevator and selected the third floor. While waiting for his stop Alfred made a little bet in his mind on whether England would scold him on being late or not. He already knew the answer.

Once the elevator reached his floor it was 2:30. Technically Alfred was on time, but on time isn't good enough in his case.

"Where have you been you, stupid git?!"

"Amerika! Jou are late! Take jour seat now!"

Alfred sighed again. This is going to be a long day.

"All right zen. Zhe meeting has now started. Our first topic vill be Global Varming and how to fix it."

The same topic again.

"Amerika! Since jou vere late jou vill present first," Germany declared.

Great.

Alfred got up out of his seat and went up to the podium.

"Alright, so my current President is trying to repeal a lot of laws and stuff that my past Presidents have made to try and counteract Global Warming. Some of the other members of Congress and the people of my country have been trying to stop him so that is how things are going with Global Warming and my government."
