I push the giant armchair away from the vent opening.

I look around for signs of my roommates. Nothing. Good.

I crawl into the vent, letting my eyes adjust to the dark.

Sighing, I lean back against the wall of the vent, I’m small for my age so I fit quite comfortably in the small space.

My ears prick up when I hear a shuffling sound. There are never noises in the vent. This is strange. I slowly turn to look around the corner and see two large luminescent green eyes. They’re beautiful, I have to admit. I sit here completely shocked, I have no idea what to do, so many reactions are running through my mind, I’m in complete shock. Nobody ever comes down here.

This is my place.

“Who are you!?” I snap, glaring at him “this is my spot!” I try to hide the fear in my voice.

“Oh…um…ah…sorry” He said an instead of backing away, he moves in front of me.

Oh joy. Now we are squished in a tiny vent together.

“Normally I don’t find other people down here” He explains and looks downward, his long eyelashes casting shadows across his cheekbones.

The pale and subtle light from the grate in the vent reveals the rest of his face. His cheekbones are angled nicely and his jaw is a soft square shape. His lips are pink and slightly pouted. His hair, dark brown with honey coloured streaks, at the front a small, nearly unnoticeable, streak of blonde.

That’s when I realise how close we are.

I can feel his breath on my neck, I can see the intricate patterns of the different coloured green in his magnificent eyes, and the different shapes of his freckles.

He even has the nerve to grin cheekily as I pull away and manage to mutter “sorry” and lean against the wall, as far away from this boy as possible.

“It’s okay” He says, still grinning his pretty little head off.

“So what’s your number” He asks and cocks his head to the side

I roll my eyes

“Twelve” I answer looking away “you?”

“S--”

“Wait, Shhhh” I whisper yell and clap my hand over his mouth. I peek through the grate and see the signature grey shoes of NinetyNine.

I lean over to the boys’ ear and whisper

“It’s NinetyNine”

I grab his hand and we run.

I’m a fast runner, the boy…not so much. I’m pulling on his arm and he’s panting and tripping over his own feet.

“Run faster will you!” I say, aggravated.

“I can’t, I don’t run! I’m not a runner okay?!” He says back puffing.

“C’mon, we’ll get to the front gates and then we’ll stop” I drag him further down the vent until we see the other opening.

“Can…we…stop…now?” He asks between wheezing breaths

“Yes” I laugh at his red cheeks and short breaths

“What’s…so funny” He asks, one eyebrow raised

“You” I say and he laughs

He has a nice laugh…hmmm…kinda sounds like wind chimes

“What’s your number?” I ask again “I never got it earlier”

“Guess” He says cheekily

I look him straight in his green eyes and see the flash of a number in his pupils

I grinned

“Seven.” I say and grin wider as his face drops

“How…how did you…how did you know that?” He looks scared.

“I’m just…special” I poke my tongue out at him.

He looks thoughtful.

“What’s your name?” Seven asks suddenly, his green eyes wide.

“I already told you. My name is Twelve…” I look at him, confused.

“No I mean your real name” Sevens’ face showing complete curiosity. Those beautiful green luminescent eyes the size of saucers and lips slightly parted…

He’s going to be very handsome when he grows up

“It’s against the rules” I say, backing away.

“Rules are only made for you to break” he grabs my arms looking me in the eyes, I look away not being able to stand the look he was giving me.

“Cassidy…” I whisper

“Huh?” he lifts my chin with his hand

“Cassidy.” I say louder “My name is Cassidy.”

“Cassidy” He says, amused “I like it, Cassidy, but…I’m gonna call you Cass”

“Cass okay” I say, trying to get used to the new name

“Alexander” Seven says, and looks up, smiling his crooked smile

“Alexander” I repeated.

He says it differently to me…he says it like ‘Alexandah’ where I say it ‘Alexanderrr’ emphasis on the ‘r’ where alexander doesn’t say the ‘r’ at all…interesting

“Well, if you get to shorten my name…I get to shorten yours”

"Okay, sure what do you wanna call me?" He cocked his head to the side again

Damn that was cute.

“Alex.” I said smiling

“Alex, okay.” He grinned

“Y’know…now that we know each other’s names…we have to stay together. We can’t just leave each other and yeah I know that we have only known each other for like…ten minutes….but yeah…” I finish, looking away, a blush of embarrassment spreading across my face.

“I agree,” says Alex “you and me against the world right?”

“forever and ever” I reply smiling.
