Chapter 23

"I don't apologize, I would die for this shit."

(Raine's POV)

"Where are we?" I ask Zayn as we pull into a beat down area that seems to have no sign of life.

"Base 6," Vex says as Zayn parks the car into a parking lot that surprisingly has tons of cars in it. "Apollo called us here."

Sighing, I unbuckle my seatbelt, exhausted to no end. The night seems to be never-ending, and all I want to do is go home, but I don't think that's an option right now. Zayn hasn't said anything to me the whole way here, but I don't understand why. He doesn't seem mad at me, because he's very vocal when he's mad. Instead, he just seems frustrated, as if all of this was inconvenient for him. Nonetheless, Vex's complaining was enough to keep my mind occupied during the hour drive here.

Zayn helps Vex out of the car, none of them clearly happy about our current situation. I follow them as they walk into an abandoned alley and somehow find a door. We walk inside to be greeted by a hallway full of Apollo's people, all relieved when they see us. Well, to be exact, when they see me.

I'm confused, to say the least, but I know better than to question these people at a moment like this. Instead, I just keep my head down and walk into the base to see Ana and Apollo standing there with a group full of people.

"Oh, thank God," Ana says when she sees us. . . Or Zayn, I can't tell.

"Can someone get me a fucking doctor? I'm dying here!" Vex shouts, still hopping on one leg. And although he had been telling me the whole ride here that there were doctors at the base, I didn't believe him until a man races up to him with a gurney. I watch as he takes Vex away into another room, and I'm more than relieved to not see that whining son of a bitch anymore.

Ana walks up to Zayn, setting a hand on the side of his face and asking if he's okay. Scoffing, I walk around them and towards Apollo, completely drained.

"Let me go home," I say to him, hiding the fact that I'm relieved to see him alive.

"What's all this?" He asks, staring at the blood smeared all over my body.

Sighing, I say, "this man. . . He tried to take me so I shot him."

Unlike Zayn, Apollo is not disappointed by this news. Instead, his mouth turns up into a slight smirk as his eyes take in the sight of me, bloody and raw, all because of him.

"Finally," he says, crossing his hands behind his back. He, too, is covered in blood and bruises, but he shows no sign of deterrence. He was awaiting me, and I realize now that it was he who sent Zayn to get me in the first place.

With one final look at me, he turns to look at the people waiting for his next command and says, "make sure everything is ready. Malik, check your car, get your shit. Everyone else, I need you to make sure that there are no eyes on him when they leave. Ana, make sure the space is ready. They're heading out as soon as possible."

Confused, I watch as literally everyone scatters, including Zayn. Everyone follows Apollo's command, but I'm not exactly sure what he was asking.

"What-"

Before I have the chance to ask him, he grabs my hand and leads me away from the crowd and into a separate room. Once I'm inside, he locks the door behind him and pushes me against it, his mouth on mine in a matter of seconds.

Even though I'm startled, I don't pull away. My hands are quick to go in his hair as he grips the back of my head and slides his tongue in my mouth, kissing me with a force that leaves me weak. I moan in his mouth, still frustrated from when we were disturbed earlier tonight, and so is he. But, he doesn't allow himself to get too far before he pulls away.
