I leaned against the door frame keeping my eyes locked on Madison. The way she moved through the crowd in a rush to get to Angela made my heart swell. I couldn't help but to think that she was just as nervous and excited as I was to be alone. Gosh she was gorgeous how had I missed her face in the crowd after all these years? I was watching as she leaned into Angela whispering in her ear visualizing her one day telling me her secrets. "Funny finding you standing alone", I stiffened at the sound of Apollo my ex girlfriend's voice. The breakup was still fresh. It was only 2 months ago that I had deemed her as the one. After going to a basketball tournament, pictures had appeared online. It was a big night for our team winning the game against the Tigers, our first victory in 10 years. Everything was fast paced that night but it would be the headline photo me the mvp with some girl's arm who I didn't even know thrown around my neck placing a kiss on my cheek. Apollo couldn't get past the photo. She wouldn't even believe me when I told her I didn't cheat on her. The trust was gone and she'd walked away with my heart. "I just knew I'd find you in the comfort of someone else" she said bitterly although she tried to hide it, I could still hear the hurt in her tone. "What's up Apollo, you look great tonight" I said being honest. She always looked good, Apollo Aiko cheer captain and head of the science club, her father was from Hawaii and had met her mother during an internship with the space program. Together they had created the beautiful tanned skin Apollo. Her hair normally long and curly now a pixie cut on her round face. She wasn't curvy and more of a worry wart when it came to weight gain due to the uniform she put on after school but she was still beautiful. Things weren't the same and I knew it but the least I could do was compliment her. She shrugged her shoulders "So why are you standing here by the door?" she asked her eyes curious. "Waiting on someone special" I said as I leaned into the door reading into her eye's I could see hope. "Maybe one day we can be friend's but I'm not there yet" she said repeating the same speech she had given me over and over, I looked at her confused. Did she think I meant her? My heart raced as my mind searched for an answer that wouldn't cause her pain. "I know you're not ready and neither am I" I said in a hushed whisper. I grabbed her arm and we moved around the corner from the door, I didn't want Madison to approach and think something was going on between Apollo and I. "I've loved you for 2 years A and losing you hurt. I can't wait for you to be ready when you can't forgive and trust me". She looked at me again with tears in her eyes, I couldn't believe we were rehashing the past once again. "When I said I was waiting on someone special I didn't mean you." I said slowly trying to allow the word's to sink in for her. I saw when she registered my meaning, saw the way she tried to stand tall in that moment her pain was back at the forefront. She looked at me and turned to walk off. The old me would have grabbed her hand and begged her not to go, to tell her I'm sorry and make her understand that I loved her to much to even think of cheating. The new Thomas knew that he hadn't done anything wrong and there was nothing to apologize for. The new Thomas now looked up to see brown curious eyes staring at him. She didn't question him or give him an untrustworthy stare she just blushed "I'm ready now." Madison said waiting for him. He smiled and held the door open for her. Those eyes would be the death of him he thought. If she kept staring at him in such a way that caressed his face he would tell her now that she was the air to his lungs. He swallowed hard walking behind her and when she looked back at him Thomas could see in her eyes the beginning of something amazing.
