introductory ✧༺october 15, 1997, the cassini spacecraft was sent into orbit to explore saturn and its moons. cassini carried the european huygens probe, a passenger that would open our eyes to the chaotic equilibrium of the planet. however, like all good things, cassini came to an inevitable end, as it exhausted itself of fuel after 20 years. to protect the moons of saturn, it was sent on one final mission to seal its fate, plunging into saturn's deadly atmosphere on september 15, 2017, helping us explore until the very end, its body disintegrating like stardust.
has cassini returned to its kingdom, with its brightness and scorching radiance from inside? or does it remain lost, like the souls that wander our planet every day, waiting for death but never truly living?
we are small in comparison to the rest of the universe, the galaxies and milky ways and everything that remains uncharted. but it is our legacies, the mark we leave behind on the world, that dots the night sky like stars, guiding another wanderer on in the darkness. and although we may come to an end like cassini, we have paved an orbit for generations and generations after all. we are the future.
this one is for you, for me, for us— the cassini's who relentlessly sail on for a better tomorrow.
