Ethan's laying there with multiple machines hooked up to him
I notice one in particular
It has a thin wire going from the machine to under the top of his hospital gown
"Hey," He says
I don't know what to say so I just hug him and don't let go
"It's okay I'm fine " he chuckles
Salty tears fall out of my eyes
"What happened?" I ask him pulling away and sitting down on the chair next to him
"I'm not sure yet," he says looking underneath his hospital gown "but I'm guessing my heart isn't helping the situation," he says with a sigh
Then I realize that the thin wire is connected to his heart
"I wanna hold your hand right now, but I don't want to mess up the wire in your hand," I say motioning to the little metal rod sticking out of his hand that's connected to a plastic wire
"It's okay that's just for water," he says and points to the iv next to his bed
I giggle and hold on to his hand
There's a knock at the door and I and Ethan turn our heads
The nurse then walks in with her clipboard
Ethan POV
The nurse walked into the room and honestly, I'm terrified to see what she has to say
"Mr. and Mrs. Dolan" when the nurse said that I looked at Alexis and she didn't the correct the nurse and in some way, my heart skipped a beat
"what we have seen from our results is that you have a heart problem and we predict it's from stress ?" the nurse says
I remember everything that's happened in the past year
-the break-in at the house
-work
- all of Leo's hospital appointments
-Romeo and Rocco fighting all of the time
-Mackenzie getting a boyfriend
-Lucas starting school
-grant being born
-mine and Alexis' divorce
-Alfie being a father at 15
and finally, me hurting my ex-wife who might still be the love of my life
"thank you," Alexis said
she turns to me and rubs my cheek
"are you okay?" she asks
"yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"well you didn't listen to anything the nurse said and your crying"
"it's just ..... "
"what is it?" she strokes my hand
"I'm.." she looks at me as if to say 'carry on'
as I'm about to finish my sentence the door opens and I see Grayson and Alfie with millie hidden behind him
"Hey," I say
Alfie just ignores me and sits down on a seat with Millie next to him
Grayson gives me the dirtiest look ever
Alfie probably told him what happened
"Alfie don't be rude," Alexis says
"why should I say hi to him? I'm only here because of you,"
not going to lie my heart broke a little bit
"lex, gray can I have a word alone with the kids ?"
they both nod and stand up and leave
"first of Alfie, I'm so sorry with how I reacted about the whole baby thing "
"you should be" Alfie snaps back
"I am but I just want to say that if you need anything just call me; if you need money if you need me to drive you somewhere anything just ask, "I say and he nods
"hows grandpa and uncle Charlie ?" he asks
"they miss you and your siblings but other than that their okay"
he nods and sends a smile my way
"so Millie how far along are you?" when I ask that her head shoots up in surprise
"Um well I'm not sure yet," she says and I nod
the next half an hour was spent talking about anything and everything
and to be honest I hope Alfie forgives me for what happened
