Days have passed since the incident happened and the siblings are likely moving on, albeit slowly. The rumour about the massacre of the Vance household have already spread in the entire city, everyone can't believe that it happened overnight and it left the entire city into a gloomy state for the past few days.
Some people were even investigating who killed the whole family while others are trying to search if there are survivors.
The common folks' action touched the hearts of the Vance siblings. The two were so proud of their parents who helped and protected a lot of people.
Lesley used her assassin skills to earn a living. After she joined, the number of evil and corrupted people starts to dwindle. Thus, the crime rate of Magical city reduced at least by half per cent.
Everyone was delighted by her skills, for it was said that her every shot never missed its target. The people then started calling her 'Master Sniper' and for some people who know they did something wrong, started to flea fearing that the sniper would have their heads.
Harley also started school at the Lion Academy, the best school for mages like him. On the day of his first day, he was scrutinized because of his height and age. But, on the time he was being tested for his aptitude, he managed to shock everyone. He was blessed by the Magical Goddess and to add the fact that he is very mature, he easily won against his seniors. After that, was branded as the star of the academy.
Harley, being the limelight of the whole school, was very lonely without friends. He was viewed as the idol that everyone must become and students were too shy to even talk with him.
There was one time though, Harley saved a girl from falling to her death in the forest behind the school grounds. The girl was named Nana and according to her, she's a leonin, a cat-like elf who came from another place. People aren't stunned when they see her as unusual creatures are very normal in Magical city.
When Harley had saved her, she was already crying and muttering 'sister Miya' in between her sobs.
The mage asked her where they could find her sister 'Miya', yet he got nothing as a reply. He helped her settled in the city and since then, they became friends as they found many similarities between them.
However, another rumour caused the whole city to be restless. Strange barriers or magic portals were appearing everywhere and some people were missing.
Harley and his newfound friend was curious and decided to take on the mission to know the reason behind the peculiar phenomenon. The teachers easily gave their assent to the students' request since they were the top students of the school and were very reliable too.
The young mage was ecstatic, skipping the whole way from his school to his house. He was glowing very bright and the tips of his ears are red. Why? He's feeling very giddy because he'll be going on an adventure with Nana, and the very thought of it made his heart thump like there's no tomorrow.
Lesley was a bit shocked by her brother's off behaviour. 'Was he sick?' She thought but quickly dismissed the idea as Harley's complexion was good and healthy. She can't really figure her brother but as long as he's happy, she's good with it.
It was very apparent that the two siblings know nothing about infatuation.
Harley greeted his sister and then happily went upstairs to his room. He was in a bliss earlier that he forgot that his sister has to know about him travelling. He started fidgeting and walking around in circles. "Will she allow me? I mean- ughh!" He repetitively pulled on his hair out of frustration.
"Harley, it's dinner time!" He heard his sister shout from the kitchen. The young mage was frightened, he quickly fixed his dishevelled appearance and timidly walked downstairs.
They were eating their dinner when Harley heaved a sigh, "Sis... I have to tell you something." Lesley causally looked at her brother, she is aware of the quest, but she deliberately acted as if she didn't know to get back at her brother for always causing trouble for her.
"U-uhm... It's about a quest." Lesley almost snickered, but she remained composed despite seeing her brother's troubled face. She hummed as a reply and dropped her utensils to listen to what Harley has to say.
"I'll be gone for days." He waited for a reply. "Maybe weeks..." he continued, "To investigate the recent happening." Harley was panicking, his sister isn't even reacting! "With Nana..."
"I know"
Lesley raised her eyebrows to her brother's red face. "Oh?" She smirked and crossed her arms. "So my brother is going out with a girl?" Harley's eyes widened and his face is in disbelief. "No... we're just frien- Hey! What did you mean by you know?!" The young mage quickly changed the topic. Lesley laughed but did not pursue the matter anymore.
"I heard you upstairs." It was half of the truth, she was actually always guarding Harley in the shadows, that's why she knows what happens around him.
"Sis, you meanie." The mage pouted and stuffed a large piece of meat in his mouth. Lesley chuckled again and continued eating.
The next morning, Lesley was already following her brother and some unfamiliar faces which she concluded as Harley's companions. She saw how he crack some joke to a cute girl and how he looks at her as if she was the only one there.
She was in the middle of eating an apple when she felt someone, no wait- a group of assassins! following the children. She threw her unfinished apple away and gripped her treasured rifle tightly. After giving her little brother one last look, she disappeared from her place.
Just as she left her place, Harley glanced at the tree Lesley was sitting earlier. He felt a presence, but he didn't react as it doesn't show any sign of hostility.
They were heading to the last place the portal appeared, which was the Isolated Forest or the Holy Land. Different sounds of animals echoed in the whole forest, they encountered snakes and bugs but they were all easy for them to kill. However as they walked deeper in the woods, the trees were starting to block out the sunlight, that's why Harley lit a fire.
The noises of the creatures faded and a spooky silence enveloped the whole group. Nana subconsciously moved closer to Harley, and the latter flinched but relaxed the next second. Soon, a gigantic tree entered their eyes.
Strong fluctuations of magic wrapped everyone and they all shivered. One of the kids who tagged along started walking towards the enigmatic tree, Harley saw it and tried stopping the mage. Unfortunately, he was too late. The student touched the barrier and white particles exploded in the entire place.
The mage was thrown backwards and everyone then moved away from the portal.
~~
BANG
The last assassin dropped dead in front of a lady. Letting their lewd thoughts take over them was the greatest regret they have in their whole life.
"Tsk, what a lewd and vile creature. You'll gang up on kids just to abuse them?" Lesley sent a deadly glare to the corpses as if killing them wasn't enough; She wants to torture them. However, time is very important so she decided to wrap things quickly.
Lesley ran and searched for her brother's aura when suddenly a bright light exploded in the sky and she sensed Harley there.
Just as she arrived in the place, she saw her brother and a girl disappear. Before she could even react, a white light blinded her sight.
She felt falling on something hard, she opened her eyes only to see mesmerizing brown orbs staring at her blankly then closed.
She was stunned silly and her mind was full of questions, but she really felt dizzy and then fell asleep.
