"Dawn is a feeling
A beautiful ceiling
The smell of grass just makes you pass into a dream
You're here today
No future fears
This day will last a thousand years
If you want it to"
- Dawn is a Feeling, The Moody BluesThe sounds of morning slowly rouse me from my sleep as light streamed in through the blinds. It's an early Saturday morning, and, surprisingly, it's quiet. Too quiet for the mother of four and two year old boys. As I wake up a bit more, I realize that my body is still tangled and curled up to the warm, sleeping mass that is my husband. Danny and I have been married for about six years at this point, and they've been the best years of my life. We met while we were both on tour with our bands about eight years ago, and we hit it off right away. He proposed on my birthday, and we got married the day we had our first date. It feels like it just happened, but here we are: In our bed, cuddled up together on a Saturday morning. I stared up at him, gently brushing some hair out of his face and admired his features. He was genuinely the most gorgeous man I've ever seen. Before I knew it, he was staring right back at me, his eyes still clouded with sleep. "Morning Babygirl." He said in a raspy, groggy tone. He only just got back from tour a few nights ago, so he's trying to recover from some jet lag. I pressed a small kiss to his lips and smiled softly up at him. "Morning sunshine." I started to get up, but Danny wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me back down to his chest. "Five more minutes Ria." He groaned before laughing lightly. I could feel the rumble of laughter in his chest. "I can't, I need to check on Theo and Francis." I responded with a giggle. He sighed before kissing the top of my head. "Fine, but I'm coming with you." We both got up from the bed. I tossed on a robe and he threw on a pair of pajama pants as we made our way to our son's rooms. I gently knocked on the door to Francis's room. I heard stirring and cracked open the door to see him still in bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Francis looks more like Danny than his brother with lightly tan skin, dark brown, wavy hair, and warm, dark brown eyes. He DOES have my nose though, which is soft, sloped, and button-like. "Good morning, sweetheart." I said softly from the doorway. "Morning Mama." Francis replied, the sounds of sleep still in his voice. "Breakfast will be ready in about an hour. Think you can be ready by then? It's French Toast. Your favorite!" Francis's face lit up with a boyish grin, his warm brown eyes glowing with an innocence lost on us adults. "Of course mama! I'll be down soon!" Danny and I both smiled before going down to Theo's room. Theo looked a bit more like me when I was his age. Dark eyes, reddish brown hair, and pale skin. He was currently standing up in his crib, waiting to get out and get food. "Morning Honey!" I said after I opened the door and walked in, picking him up from his crib. "How about I take care of getting him ready while you go down and get breakfast started? I'll be down to help soon." Danny said as he slipped a hand to my waist while I held Theo. "Are you sure? I can take care of him, I've been doing that for months no-" "Yes, Baby. Ria. I can handle it. Besides, it gives me time to be a dad. I need that." I contemplated for a moment before sighing slightly, a grin on my face. "Alright, if you insist, Birdie." I handed Theo over to him and kissed his cheek before rubbing his shoulder lightly. I then left the room and went downstairs to start on breakfast.
[TIME SKIP]
It's now about 10:00 AM. The boys are in the living room trying to pick the toys they want to play with. I'm sitting on the floor with the two of them, and Danny is working on a laptop behind me on the couch. There was a small pile of toys laid out for them from their toy box, and Francis quickly latched onto his favorite. It was a toy guitar he had gotten for Christmas the year before from one of his favorite uncles (can you guess who? 😉) Theo, on the other hand, was crawling around and couldn't find something he wanted to play with. He was starting to get frustrated and was about to throw a tantrum. I started to panic, because even though I've dealt with this before. I didn't know what toy would try and placate the toddler. I looked around at all the toys before I noticed Danny got off the couch and sat beside me. He was scanning the toys before he picked up a small drum with a stick attached by a cord. It was a mini snare. Danny used the attached stick to hit the head once and make a rattling sound. "See bud? What's that? What's that noise?" He said in a very sweet, light-hearted tone. Theo was mesmerized and grabbed it as soon as he could. He then began to hit the top and laughed. I sighed in relief, wrapping my arms around Danny's middle and resting my head on his shoulder. "I am so lucky to have you, but you know this house is never going to be quiet, right?" I lifted my head and looked up at him. He was still looking at his sons with a sense of pride and awe. "Yeah, and I wouldn't want it any other way." He quickly pulled me up into his lap, his arms wrapped around my waist as I straddled him. I wrapped my arms around his neck, resting my elbows over his shoulders. I looked up at him, my eyes wide in slight surprise as he reached a hand up to caress my jaw. He then removed the space between us and kissed me. It was passionate, sweet, almost innocent. We pulled away a moment later, resting our foreheads together. "I love you, Victoria." He whispered. "I love you too, Daniel."
