I had been trying to sleep since 9 o'clock. It was now 12:30. Three and a half goddamn hours! I haven't had a good nights sleep in weeks and I'm positive that just about everyone I know has pointed out the dark circles surrounding my eyes or my overall groggy mood. It's not that I don't want to sleep or that I'm not tired because I promise you I am- I just physically can't fall asleep. And it's the most frustrating thing ever.I decide that at this point there is no other way than to just completely tire myself out- so I get out of my bed and lazily hoist on a pair of mom jeans and throw on a plain t-shirt. I barely touch my hair; choosing to leave it in the ponytail it's in already. I pull on some random shoes, grab a jacket and silently make my way through the house. I know that it's most likely dangerous to roam the streets of Queens at this ungodly hour, but it's not like I'll get killed, right?
Cautiously, I approach the door- a sigh of relief escaping me- if mum were to find out she'd have my head. Turning the door knob then opening it slowly as to not alert my parents with the obnoxious squeaking sound our front door just loved to make when I'm sneaking out.
I break free from the house and close the door behind me. I let my feet drag me down the few steps that lead to the street, the air is warm on my skin and though it is dark I can see fairly well due to the excessive amount of street lamps that overpower Queens. I'm quite confident in coming out this late as I've lived here all my life-never been anywhere else in all honesty- so I know the streets like the back of my hand. It doesn't take me long to decide where I should go to, almost immediately I start heading to the small park a fair few blocks away. Seeing as it's late and there's no one around I choose to take a short cut through some alleyways- don't judge me I'm aware of the stigma surrounding back alleys but I'm not walking three extra blocks.
Turning the corner in somewhat of a daze, I enter the first dim street on the way to the park. It wasn't as well lit as the open roads but I could still make out any thing that's may hinder my journey. I take careful steps as to not trip on some crevice and fall straight on my face, my feet going one after another quietly. Only the echo of my own footsteps can be heard and I allow my mind to wonder off and daydream for a moment.
But that moment to halter as i feel myself being shoved forcefully against one of the crumbling alleyway wall.
The person strong hands upon my shoulder and waist- restricting my movement. I barely realise what is going on until his musky breath is on my skin- warming it sickeningly. I hesitate for a moment, utterly shocked, but muster up the strength to kill my attacker a harsh shoving. My small hands against his chest and pushing forwards with all my might. He stumbles back.
"Run lady, I'll get him," echoes through the alley and I hear fast footsteps approaching. It takes a second to take in what is said but when I understand, I defy that order.Don't go thinking I'm being stupid just yet.
The man has now gained balance one more and the footsteps are still too far from me. I could run but I'm awfully unfit and would never be able to outrun him. What other option do I have?
I grab the mans shoulders and thrust my knee right into his crotch-;I stomp on his left four roughly before lifting my strong hand, forcing it into a fist, pulling back and finally exhausting all my might by crashing it into his face. As I do this I hear the figure add "ow" 's and "yeah! Right in the balls!"
The man slumps to the floor, letting out a groan of agony.
"W-wow, err nevermind I guess."
I face the voice only to see Spider-Man, you know like the Spider-Man!
"Well thanks anyway," I reply, giving him a warm smile.
"You should probably go home, the streets in the middle of the night can be a tad dangerous," his voice is much younger than I thought he would be- around my age possibly?
"Y-yeah probably," I chuckle, "again thanks,"
"hey you did all the work, I just yelled a little,"
He shrugs his shoulders and though I can't see his face, I know that he's smiling.
"I'll see you around I guess,"
"Aha, and remember if you ever need any help I'll be nearby."
My smile grows and I nod my head light heartedly as he shoots a web from his wrist before simply disappearing over the building tops. And after all this am I tired? Heck yeah I am, so I head home, much more cautiously than before and hop right into bed.
