The sun shined through my window and landed on my soft blue bed. I groaned at the new brightness and covered my head with a pillow. I had stayed up all night on my phone so I knew waking up wasn't going to be easy.
I stayed in that position for a few more minutes before I decided to finally get up. I lifted myself up and turned to the mirror leaning against the wall. My blonde hair was sticking out in every direction it seemed. I sighed dramatically and threw myself back on my bed.
I really didn't want to get up.
Despite my eyes begging for me to close them, I got out of bed. My phone vibrated from my nightstand which caused me to jump from the noise. I grabbed it and read the notification
TEXT FROM: BOSS MAN
I stared puzzled at my phone.
"Ugh. I swear to gosh if he asks me to come in today" I quietly mumbled to myself.
I clicked on the notification.
BOSS MAN: Where are you???? It's almost 10 your an hour late.
Me: It's literally Sunday John I don't work sundays :/
BOSS MAN: You have one braincell Cassia Get a f*cking calendar. it's Monday.
I quickly pulled down the tab on my phone. It was in fact Monday
Me: Oh my god I thought it was Sunday I'm so sorry I'll be there in ten
BOSS MAN: Every minute your late I'm taking a dollar off your paycheck
I raced around my room and got ready as quick as I could. I put on the ugly uniform I was forced to wear and tied my hair up.
If I know my boss than I know that he is not kidding about the paycheck thing. I ran downstairs and called for an Uber while I rummaged through my refrigerator to find anything that could pass off as breakfast.
I settled for an apple that I knew very well had probably gone bad. I ran outside and waited very impatiently for my Uber.
The Uber screeched to a stop outside of my work. Once I had bribed the driver to go a "little" faster, the time it took to get to my work went down from ten minutes to five.
I thanked my driver with a smile and a wave. He winked at me in return and sped off. The clock on my phone read 9:58. I was still very much late but I still had two minutes to spare before my paycheck started to dwindle in size.
I walked into the Starbucks and the strong smell of coffee immediately smacked me in the face.
I could tell why John was so angry at me. It's a Monday morning rush hour and they were short staffed. The line to order was almost at the door. I could tell that all the people in line were getting very agitated.
"Glad you decided to actually show up" said a gruff voice. I turned to look behind the counter. John was making coffee and doing very aggressively. I laughed awkwardly and put my apron on.
"Sorry about that John. I promise it won't happen again."
He gave me a look that said he was gonna make sure I kept that promise. My two other coworkers were rushing around making drinks for the angry customers. I quickly got up to the register and started to help manage the situation.
