Headcannon Alex had this dream after the Reynolds pamphlet

"Well, are you proud of yourself? I mean, if your sharing those letters might as share ours, right?" John Laurens asked.

"Laurens, you know I-"

"I mean if your gonna tell the world you cheated on a woman like twenty years younger why not about us?"

"Laurens, I-"

"Oh, that's right, you were embarrassed by me." His eyes were ice cold.

"You know they-"

"They what? What're they gonna do? Stone us? Kill us? I have the knowledge and materials to make boats, Alex. We could've together but nope! You can't be satisfied."

"But what would they have thought?"

"I'm offended you still think I care about what people think! You loved me, yes?"

"With all my heart..."

"And what did that get you? Fame? You don't need a famous legacy! Everyone gets a legacy! You just need a journal and an interesting death and boom! Your famous!"

"But the future-"

"Get up, take a stand, there's always someone to write about it! That's how things get better! What about in a few hundred years? The world will be ready, I promise you! And you know why? Because people are brave!"

"But-"

"I was disowned from my family for wanting to free slaves, do I care? No! I regret one thing in my life. I never said anything about this." He gestured from Alex back to him.

"John, I'm-"

"Well at least they have the letters, I'm sure they can figure it out! Not like historians are constantly ignoring those things."

"I..."

"You'll never be satisfied. When you think about it, You technically cheated on me with your wife."

"..."

"Welp see you when you die from dueling someone because you can't keep your mouth shut about anything but us."
