"Sophia, dear we need to have a little talk,"my mother told me as she entered my room.Oh god,I knew what was about to happen. She would only start a conversation like this when she had to tell me something had just gone wrong. The last time she did this was when my dad ran over my german sheperd,Dixie Lou.
As she start on the edge of my bed i could see the tears in her eyes. This must be bad if shes about to cry,I thought as i looked up at her. With me only being 5'5, I had to look up at mostly everyone i know, especially my mom who was a mere 5'10.
"You know how your father lost his job a few days ago, right?"she asked,"well your fathers friend,Mr.Cruz, from the U.S has offered to help us with our debts exchange for a new assistant for Singer22,and your father agreed to send you to be the assistant since your father couldn't part from me,and with your scholarship in business,"my mother looked down like she was ashamed of my father.
"Wait! He did what?"I thought i would never raise my voice to my mother, but theres a first for everything, right?
"Sophia Davina Claire!"my mother yelled as I ran out of the house toward my best friends house.
I softly knocked on the door, and before Katrina could open the door i bursted into tears.Katrina rushed me inside before pushed me into a chair and hugging me.
"Shush,Soph, whatever is wrong im sure everything will be okay,"Katrina softly said into my ear.
"Kat,you don't get it.My father agreed to send me to the U.S to be an assistant to Mr.Cruz!"I mumbled into her shoulder before more tears came.
Katrina and I have been friends since we were babies, heck our mothers were best friends since pre-k.We may have our difference, but Kat was always the one who had been by my side, from the first heartbreak to the day my maw-maw died four years ago.Kat's parents now being divorced and my dad just losing his job,we needed each other more than ever, yet i was leaving and i knew it was going to kill Kat.Since we were kids we promised each other we would grow old together, but now that promise was being broke.
"You'll write every day, right?"Kat asked me hours later as i was walking out the door.
"I promise i will Kat,"I slightly smiled.
As I walked down the street I looked back at the house I had practically grow up in I felt the tears roll down my eyes.I couldn't believe this was the last time I would see it.As I walked up my drive,I noticed a jet black car in the drive.I walked up the front steps I heard voices on the other side of the door.
"I will not stand for this!"an angry voice shouted,"If she's not here within the hour you can guarantee that the deal with my father is no more."
