(Your weapons are a taurus revolver which you use as an easy-to-hide weapon, an m1911, a mosin nagant which is your sniper and a hatchet.)
(Your name is Hesh.)
(you are 23 years old.)

BLAM!
A bullet hissed through the air and a hit the biter in the head, a clean shot, you had good aim since it was one of the... "requirements" to live in this world.
Hesh: "All clear, doc."
As you said this the doc left cover and went next to you.
Russell: "Well im glad thats over"
he said dusting his sleeves off.
Hesh: "lets stay focused, are we getting close to the facility?"
Doc: "yes! Of course! But we may need to hijack a vehicle or we wont get there in time."
Hesh: "Already on it."
You soon got to work and started to hijack an rv.
And not much later you were already on the move.
Hesh: "how much further?"
Doc: "its just 34.3 miles away."
Hesh: "good."

Timeskip

You arrived at the compound but there was something wrong.
Hesh: "hmmm, no guards, the checkpoints are abandoned... this doesnt look good to me."
Doc: "l-lets just go inside."
The doc inputted the code, the retina scanner and the fingerprint which made the door open.
The two of you headed inside and were surprised yet again when no military personnel went out to greet you.
Doc: "strange... i thought there would be a welcome party."
Hesh: "lets just get this over with."
You followed the doctor and ventured deeper inside the facility.

Timeskip

You arrived at the room where the device was being tested but once again no one to be in sight.
Hesh: "its as if they just vanished."
Doc: "i don't understand."
Suddenly you both heard a clanking from behind the door in front of you.
You aimed your m1911 and took out your hatchet.
You opened the door and there was just a rat.
Doc: "phew."
Hesh: "alright we have to- FUCK!"
A biter appeared from behind the doctor and took a bite out of his arm.
Doc: "AAAAGGH! FUCK, FUCK, FUUUUCK!!!"
Everything happened too fast; out of fear you shot the biter in the head but that was the worst mistake possible.
You helped the doctor get up and just as you were about to make a run for it you heard the biters blocking your only exit.
You turned around and went deeper into the facility.
You got past a door with a sign on top of it which read testing chamber.
You went inside and blocked the door.
Hesh: "theres no way out..."
Doc: "thats not entirely true..."
Hesh: "what do you mean?"
Doc: "i suppose that now is as good time as any to tell you its not like the government will hunt my ass."
"We were working on a top secret project which consisted on opening a multi-cellular dimensional gateway..."
"And guess who has the golden ticket out of this shit-hole."
Hesh: "No thats not- we are going together."
Doc: "dont worry about me, i'll hold them off."
Hesh: "im not letting you turn into one of them."
Doc: "the probabilities of your survival based on the time we have before the infected take down the door upon you doing so are wayyy fucked up. I'll turn the machine on. And you just have to step through it once the particles start fusing themselves."
Hesh: "im so sorry..."
BLANG!
The barricaded door was about to collapse.
You stepped in front of the gateway and waited for the signal.
Doc: "readings look normal; parameters are stable; requirements are nominal..."
"On the count of three: one...... two........ three!"
The doc activated the gateway and you stepped in it and just as you were vanishing you saw the doctor defending himself with your m1911 before he was overrun by them.
And so your journey begins...
