Chapter 1

Growing up was never easy ...

Sarah opened the door to her little brother Charlie's room one early raining Monday morning, Charlie's was fast asleep in his bed she walked across the room to gently nudge him awake "charlie wake up its time for school. Charlie whined as he got up  she helped him get dressed helped Charlie to the bathroom getting his teeth and hair brushed after she was finished she told him to wait in the living room .

Charlie went to the living room like he was told Sarah went to her room and got dressed doing the same routine , after she was finished she grabbed her back pack and charlies putting them on the couch as she walks into the kitchen to find them something to eat.

She looked into the empty fridge and cabinets and couldn't find anything she looked over and saw that there was a banana in a bowl she walked over picking up the piece of fruit looking at her little brother she signed as she started to peel it,sarah walked over to Charlie handing him the fruit  she grabbed her bag and coat helping Charlie with his, they opened the door and stepped outside into the cold wet rain.

Sarah locked the door behind her taking her little brother's hand and started walking to school. They walked  around the corner where they lived to meet a street light as they were waiting a car went full speed splashing the 2 young kids, Sarah sighed as Charlie sobbed Bit she reassured him and they started walking again.. Sarah walked Charlie to his preschool that was across the field from her school

She turned around leaving her brother there and went to her class Sarah was in first grade as she walked into her class she was thinking to her self maybe things will get better maybe we won't live like this anymore.

The day went by and it was time for lunch  Sarah got up from her table  got in line waiting til the teacher walked them to the cafeteria as she was walking she listened to two boys from her class making fun of her "eww look it's ugly Sarah " one of them said with laugh and the other one followed after saying" hey freak don't you have any other clothes".

Sarah looked down and realized that she wore dirty and wrinkly clothing  she ignored the comments by lifting her head high and walked to the lunch room.
Sarah grabbed her lunch and walked over to a small food bar and grabbed a red apple placing it on her plate .
She looks up from her tray and looks for a place to sit ,she walks over to a empty table and eats her food alone until one little girl came up and sat next to her .

"Hi there my name is Alex I'm new and saw you were by you're self so I decided to sit next to you" she says softly. Sarah looks at her with a small smile and says" my name is Sarah nice to meet you " the two girls smiled and laughed during lunch talking about different things until the lunch bell rang Sarah realized what time it was .

"Sorry Alex I have to go" as she runs out of the lunch room she runs to her class making sure nobody was near she grabbed her bag and ran to her brothers school.

Charlies came running out to her showing her a painting he did  with his fingers " look sissy looks what I did " as he held it up " Sarah smiled and looked at it as they walked back home.

Sarah and charlie walked inside there home to there mom and dad fighting cursing at each other .

They sighed as they try to sneak past them so they could go to there rooms till there father spots them "where the hell have you too been !!!!" he yells . Sarah and charlie walk back toward them .

Sarah looks at her dad and says" we were at school daddy"her father looked at her with anger yelling"you guys no better than to take off and not tell us where you are going "!!! Sarah looks at her dad and says " you and mama were sleeping so I Took Charlie and my self to school someone has too "she says with a snotty scratchy voice. There father angrily spanked them both he looked at them told them to leave his sight and not to come out..

Sarah and charlie cry as they slowly walked to there rooms.

(Sarahs and charlies mom and dad were using and never noticed the two young siblings and they were always left to fend for them selves and where never allowed to leave )

~5 years later ~

Sarah 7 and charlie5 where sitting in the living when they heared there parents fighting again this time they heard aloud smack and they hear there mother cry out in pain. Sarah and charlie sit on the couch holding onto each other in tears Sarah tells her brother to go into his room she took the phone from the living room and soon followed after him. Sarah got on the phone with 9-1-1 and told them that daddy was was hurting there mommy .

The fighting and arguing goes on for Another 10 more minutes when they hear a knock on the door the father angerly walks to the door seeing a police officer and a cps worker his attitude quickly changes when he sees them

They come into the home seeing how messy it was the social worker looks over seeing the  two siblings standing in the hallway entery seeing how dirty ther clothes were she also walked into he kitchen seeing the cabinets Nd fridge was empty she looked at there mother and so did cops " we got a call from the residence about a domestic abuse and neglect " the father laughed and looked at the officers and and lady crazy saying " nobody called everything is fine "

The mother was sitting in the floor with her hand on her cheek in tears the police officers ask if she was alright and the husband spoke" she's fine she's a bit clumsy an fell  that all"

Sarah looked at her father with rage and tears began to form" liar!!!!!

Every one looked at the young girl as she stepped forward saying" I called them you were hurting mom and you hurt us you neglect us you guys  starve us we never get to leave because of you so I called them to end this!!! "

The father and mother looked at there daughter speechless as the officer put the father in cuffs taken him and placing him in the back of the car the social worker told the children to get a bag and that they were going with her the mother frantically cried and tried to stop the woman from taking her children.

"No please don't take my babies" as she takes the woman hand the woman moved her hand away ignoring the mother as the police officers take her into custody aswell

Sarah and charlie where sitting in the police station holding each other  as they think of something to do with the youngsters a man and woman walk into the station where the kids where  the woman smiled at the kids as she walked past them . Sarah looks at her brother to reassure him everything was alright .

A few weeks go by  the siblings were placed in foster care waiting to be adopted until.. The same couple from the police station come in  and were talking to the lady that ran the foster care building,

"Hello how are you guys doing today" the woman says smiling at the couple . The woman smiled back and says " Hello I'm doing great my husband and I  would like to fill some paper work out to adopt " the man put a hand on his wife's arm smiling as the lady gets happy and excited as she gets some paper work to fill out she smiles and sits them down at her desk and starts to ask " what is the age and gender you guys would like " the woman holds her husband's hand and says" we were look to adopt a boy and a girl " the lady ms..Martin smiled and says "alright great "

What seems to be hours they fill the applications and get approved  and where able to go to the rooms where the children are . Sarah and charlie where sitting in the back of the room clean and dressed they where talking and playing with cars. The man and woman were walking around looking at the boys and girls ,when the woman looks up and sees Sarah and charlie .

She smiled and walks over to them kneeling down and says very warm " Hello my name is  Lillian and this is my husband Joseph what are your names" Charlie and Sarah look at each other when Sarah says soft" my name is Sarah and this is my little brother Charlie" Lillian smiled and says " nice to meet you guys would you guys like to come home with us? ".

Sarah and charlie smile  with a soft nod  Lillian and Andy take the children's hands and walks with them to the office where ms. Martin is and finish  the process Sarah and charlie where give. New names  Jennifer and derek.

The take there new parent hands and walk with them to the car and drive home
