There was a loud blaring noise which Alice recognised to be her alarm clock, she groaned and after a few minutes got up, her hair was messy and in her mouth which she left there, not bothered as she shut off her alarm clock. She walked out of her room quietly hoping not to wake her dad knowing he should be home by now, she sighed and went to the bathroom, brushing out her long blue hair.
After getting ready for the day, shower, getting dressed, etc. She peered into her fathers room, as always it was a tip, beer cans and wrappers of unknown drugs scattered across the room in the masses. It made her sick how he could live like his, she had tried to help him but eventually gave up when she realised he wouldn't change his ways.
After staring for a while she packed her bag for school and left, going to the cafe seeing as she had some time before she needed to be in. As she walked in the scent of freshly baked goods filled her nose, it was like heaven as she sat down in her chair, looking around at the simple, yet beautiful patterns on the wall. As the waitress walked over she ordered a strong coffee and a blueberry muffin.
As she waited for her order to be fulfilled she pulled out her phone and started to scroll through what very little messages she had been sent. It was a good pastime until she noticed one from her school, she opened it as soon as she saw it, reading through it it stated school would be closed for the duration of today and tomorrow. She felt her heart sink to her stomach, school had been one of the places she could escape home life, without it she would be stuck in reality.
The waitress came around with her order, placing it in front of her and giving a shot sweet smile before leaving, Alice didn't really feel like eating anymore but not wanting to be rude she took a bite, the flavour of sweet cake and berries danced along her tongue hand in hand and she couldn't help but let a small groan fall from her lips as she took her second bite.
After finishing her muffin and coffee she left the cafe, wrapping her coat around her tightly as she made her way home, it was way to cold to go anywhere else anyway.
After about 15 minutes of walking she arrived at her house, she opened the door and was flooded with warmth, compared to the outside this was like a sauna. She felt all her muscles relax but soon tense up again as she heard her fathers hungover yells "Alice is that you?! Close the damn door!!!" She was quick to obey his order, knowing he could be quite vicious when he was hungover, and although she wasn't scared she wasn't particularly fond of having to dodge beer bottles that were being hurled towards her.
After getting lost in her though for about a minute she started to make her dad breakfast, scrambled eggs and toast. He had taught her had to make it when she was small, but not anymore.
She brought her dads food up to him with a glass of orange juice and his medication for his headache "bout fucking time you little brat" he mumbled under his breath and Alice couldn't help but feel small tears prick her eyes "s..sorry dad I'll be quicker next time" she mumbled and he nodded approvingly, signalling her to leave.
She went to her room obediently and locked the door before searching through her array of books, she sighed and picked an old favourite of hers 'goodnight Mr Tom' she had to have read it at least 100 times by now, the cover was old and worn and a few of the pages had been stuck together and pulled apart, leaving some of the words faded and difficult to read.
She read for hours on end, finishing 'goodnight Mr Tom' in under an hour and then going on to read other books.
Her reading binge was disrupted by a banging at the door, it sounded like it was being kicked down! She ran downstairs and quickly opened he door for the unknown guest, even her father had come down to see who was causing the disturbance. As she opened the door she saw a man who looked to be in his late 20's, he had slight stubble and well trimmed hair, his facial expression was stern and he looked serious as did the two guys behind him.
One of the guys to his left had dark, chocolate skin, he looked to be a lot older, maybe going into his 40's, he even had he occasional grey hair in his dreads. He had very obvious crows eyes and a freshly shaven face, his build was muscular, a lot bigger than the guy in front.
The other guy on his right had pale skin win light freckles on his cheeks, his hair was a platinum blonde, he looked about 26 maybe 28. He to had a muscular build, his beard was growing through as well, like he hadn't shaved in a while.
After Alice had finished observing the three she noticed a similarity between all of them... They all had guns strapped to there waist! She had never seen a real gun before and she couldn't stop staring at them.. All until the guy in the middle held his hand on it "now.. You better have my money or we are going to have some issues Parker" he spoke with venom in his voice as he glared at Alice's dad, who looked terrified beyond belief.
"I..I just give me s..s..some more time.... A month and I..Ill have it I swear" George, Alice's father pleaded with the men, they all looked and nodded at eachother before shooting him in the middle of his temple, Alice screamed as she witnesses this and her heart dropped to the floor. Suddenly the gun was pointed at her "no witnessed" he mumbled before he was shot dead, and so were his two men. He gunshots came from the trees! Alice quickly poked her head out to see who her saviour was but all she saw was a flash of black run into the forest and that was it....
