One afternoon he came in and sat on one of the stools on the customer's side of the counter. I was putting together some coffee and putting an order on the line for the cook.

Iraiz, a friend and girl-crush of mine, spotted Mark when he came in and asked him if he was in for a meal or just coffee. Mark answered her but he started a whole conversation with her that I didn’t notice until I spotted them chatting and frowned.

“Iraiz, the orders are ready to go.” I said, putting my hands on my hips. Iraiz gave me an apologetic smile and giggled. She grabbed the plates and hurried to bring them to their respective tables. Mark drummed his fingers on the counter and chuckled.

“Your friend is quite the talker.” he said. I nodded.

“She’s always got some cool story to tell.” I looked over at her and smiled. She turned just at that moment and smiled back, and was that a slight reddening of her cheeks I saw? I felt eyes on me and noticed Mark staring at me with a strange look. “What?”

“You two are real close, huh?”

“Not really…” I suddenly found my shoes very interesting. “Anyways, um, I don’t want to seem like a fan girl or anything… even though I guess technically I am… but do you want to hang out sometime? Like, outside of the diner?”

Mark didn’t hesitate to smile and nod his head. “I’d love to. How about we hang out today?”

“Sure!” I blushed at my excitement. “Let me get your number…”
