He's been there eversince 2nd grade. I found him in my backyard and thought I was only dreaming. He came closer and told me only I could see him. He said I was special and he will protect me. It was true that I didn't have parents. I lived with my older sister who's 16 1/2 now. Anyway, the thing in my backyard looked something like a dragon. I'm pretty sure he was and still is. His name was Flare.

He introduced himself before I could ask. I told him my name, Jane. Flare told me he was a Spirit Dragon. I didn't know what that meant but he said he will explain everything as soon as we go somewhere that won't make me look like an idiot talking to the air. So, I told Flare to come follow me in my bedroom.

I was walking slowly and looking behind my back every 5 seconds to make sure he was catching up. Though, I forgot dragons have wings so he just flew upstairs, where my bedroom was. The weird thing is, he flew to the door going into my bedroom, not my sister's which was right next to it, nor Lindsey's. Oh, and, btw, Lindsey was my 7 year old sister if you were wondering. "How did you know that this was my room?" I whispered quietly to Flare. "I just know. I'm your spirit dragon, remember?" He said smiling. I smiled back and we entered the room.

He just stared and looked around, walking in different directions and checking out my room. "This is a nice place you've got here." He said. "Uh, thanks!" I said. He started looking around some more. I wonder why. I'm the kind of person who asks questions even if they're not necessary. "Um, Flare?" I said in a shy voice. "Yeah?" He said while digging through a pile of my stuffed animals. "Oooof!" He said sinking into the pile. "Is... there something you're looking for?" I asked in a sweet voice. "Oh." He started. "No. I'm just, looking around so I get comfortable. As a spirit dragon, I'm usually here all the time because you are." "Oh." I said. He got out of the pile and opened my drawers. "You... uh, don't happen to have any candy, do ya?" He asked. I was surprised. Why in the world would he want to know that? "Um. Yeah. Halloween was just last month. I always save it for at least 3 months." I wasn't the kind of kid that goes crazy over candy and eats 3 everyday. "Oh! Well, I apologize. This might seem rude, but could I have a piece?" He asked. Oh, I guess that's why he wanted to know, but that still begs a question: Why would a super rare mythical animal that I've ever seen or anybody in real life want to have a piece of candy? Well, this is my spirit dragon, whatever that means, so I should give him one. "Yeah sure!" I said as I handed him a piece from my bag of Halloween candy. He took the candy, unwrapped it with his long nails, and stuffed the wrapper inside one of the pockets in the messenger bag he was wearing. He opened his mouth and popped the piece of candy in his mouth.

"Ok," Flare started. "This is why I'm here."
