Cato’s POV
NO! THIS IS NOT HAPPENING…THIS IS NOT HAPPENING!
The first thing I could think of was to grab the table next to me and throw it. I was just in a giant rage. I ran up on the stage I needed to know who was behind putting Clove in the arena. I grabbed the trainer and pulled them up against the wall.
“WHO DID THIS?”
“Sir I’m not aloud to-“
“TELL ME NOW…OR YOU CAN FACE THE CONSEQUENCES…If I were you I would tell me”
“Fine… it was Miss Abington’s parents”
Of course it was her parents. Her parents had it out for me since the day they met me because I wasn’t rich. I was going to change that by winning live in the victor’s village with Clove and show her parent’s that I’m good for her.
My parents aren’t that rich their peacekeepers it isn’t a high paying job. My parents are Melody and Tyler Pierce. Clove is the only reason I was able to get in this academy she persuaded her parents into letting me in she would have given her place in the academy for me. That’s why she can’t die for once she has to do something for herself. If that means me dying for the girl I love I’ll do that.
I was able to calm myself down and I loosened my grip on the trainer. I let go of the trainer and I walked off the stage and shoved past everyone till I made it outside. I went over to where I found Clove sitting under our tree. I didn’t actually notice that she left. I sat down next to her and wrapped my arms around her as she started to cry on my shoulder.
“Clove…you’re going to get through this” I whispered in her ear. “I am not going to let anything happen to you”
“C-Cato they knew you were volunteering they d-did this deliberately!”
“Shh I know about that but it’s going to be o-
“No it’s not going to be okay! One of us is going to die in that damned arena!…Cato I just can’t live in a world without you…I love you”
I grabbed onto Clove and forced my lips upon hers moving as one. I could taste her cherry lip gloss I really was going to miss the taste of that. Our lips had parted and I stared into her gorgeous green eyes and the smile on her face. I felt a smirk come over my face as I stared over her I have to enjoy the time that I have left with her.
“Come on beautiful we better get going” as I said that I picked her up in my arms.
“Cato what ar-“
“I am carrying my girlfriend to the town square that is what I’m doing” I grinned down at her as she cuddled up against me.
“You are so childish…”
“And that is why you love me Miss Abington”
“Yes Sir Mr Pierce”
“You know one day I was going to ask you to be Mrs Peirce” I said seriously looking straight ahead.
“Do you really mean that?” She asked me
I just nodded as I kept on walking. I really didn’t want her to see me cry over this.
“We would have had an amazing wedding Clove. We would have had beautiful children that would look just like you and me…and we would be together for the rest of our lives” my voice had cracked and tears were starting to come down my face. Clove pressed her hand against my face and wiped the tears away. I sat Clove down on her feet.
“You ready for this Clove?”
“Ready as I will ever be” she whispered.
I held her hand ready to face my death.
We walked into the square holding hands getting stares from everyone around us. I walked her over to the seventeen year old section and gave her a kiss before walking over to the eighteen year olds section. None of the guys I trained with made an effort to talk to me with the exception of my best friend Nathan Scott. Nathan looked pretty weak for an eighteen year old. He was able to get self-pity and after they had lowered their guard he would attack them. Nathan had dark blue eyes black hair that went over his eyes and was pale as a ghost.
“Nathan I need you to do something for me” I told him seriously.
“Of course I’ll do anything for you Cato just name it” He replied.
“After the games and after I die I need you to take care of Clove for me…Just make sure she finds someone that makes her happy and make sure she moves on” my voice was cracking so Nathan pulled me into a hug.
“Of course I will do that for you Cato. I’m going to miss you herebuddy”
“I’m going to miss you too Nathan”
As we stopped hugging we got interrupted by the click clop of high heels walking across the stage. A woman from the capitol came on in stage in a orange outfit she had black hair with orange in it Disgusting.
“Today we have the honour of choosing a boy and a girl to represent district two in the seventy fourth hunger games. We shall begin with the girls”
Here it comes Clove’s time to shine.
“Clove Abington” the woman called out.
Looks like Clove doesn’t have to volunteer. She made her way up on stage with a smile on her face trying to hide everything she actually felt in that instance.
“Now let’s move onto the boys Kyle Xavier”
“I VOLUNTEER!” I shouted walking past everyone. I walked slowly up onto the stage taking a look at everyone surrounding me.
“Let’s have a cheer for our tribute’s Clove Abington and?”
“Cato Pierce” I whispered in the women’s ear so the audience wouldn’t hear.
“Cato Pierce!”
We bowed at the audience as claps and cheers had erupted. We were escorted into the justice building and in separate rooms. I sat down on the sofa and waited. My parents ran into the room and my mother wrapped her arms around me.
“Baby you are coming back!” my mother said hysterically.
“Mum I am not coming home ok Clove is”
“No!” she said crying. I had to force her arms off of me. I walked over to my dad and gave him a hug.
“You know why I’m doing this don’t you”?
“Of course I do Cato I would do the same”
“You have to take care of mum okay promise me that?” I told him.
“I promise you that I will”
After the heart felt goodbyes I was left on my own crying my eyes out. It had started to sink in that I was not going to come back here and I was just going to be a dead tribute in a worthless game.
