"I've never had a dream like this... and to be honest I'm a little afraid of it." Rikky was concerned, his face showed that his dream had him really spooked. He looked up the stairs at his mother and almost insisted she listened.
"Well baby, come on up here and tell me while I do something to that thing you call a fro. Do you want braids or twist?" She asked as she bobbed in and out of the stairway making sure to get her supplies from various rooms and drawers.
"Braids will be fine. It'll look better for the performance." Rikky made his way up the stairs and to his mothers room. "I can't believe I agreed to sing and dance all alone at the Relay for Life event."
"You know you're a performer. It's in your blood. Just like your bobble headed daddy. He loves to perform, whether it's a ten person audience or a thousand." She got settled and motioned Rikky to sit down in front of her. "Now tell me about this dream."
"Okay, well I was standing in front of grandmas house, next to a navy blue truck and I had my hands on the hips of a girl who I instantly recognized as my close friend Alicia. We were close and she whispers to me that she thinks she's pregnant and that it's not mine. When I asked whose it could be, she said it was the only person she could've been with before the two months we've been dating. She makes a face and says she's so sorry but I kiss her and tell her it's okay. That even if it's not mine, I loved her too much to not support her. She cried and I held her. And then I woke up." Rikky managed to get it all out even with his moms pulling away at his roots. "I've had this dream three nights in a row and every night it's the same but more detailed, like I was actually living it. And I could actually feel her body and the feel of the textures in my dream... AHHH that hurt!" Rikky couldn't help but scream as she started the braids.
"Oh hush boy you always been tender headed. And ain't nothing wrong with having a dream about a girl. You're twenty-two, you're about to graduate and you're starting to see potential wives. I don't see a problem." Rikky's mom seemed to have a beauty parlor grove as she braided away.
"It's a problem when the girl in my dream is my best friends long time ex girlfriend. How could I have dreams of me falling in love and helping support my best friends ex. That is a HUGE no. MAMA, PLEASE BE GENTLE" Rikky continues to whine as his mom continued to braid.
"Well why don't you talk to both of them and see how they feel? Worst thing that could happen is she doesn't have feelings for you and he gets upset over your subconscious. That's not so bad."
"Maybe you're right..." Rikky made a face "I just hope I don't mess things up." Rikky closed his eyes and tried to relax as his mother continued to work on his head.
To be continued...
