~~~Note: The book will be in Vanessa's POV until stated otherwise~~~
"Did you eat already?" My dad asks as I lay my bag on the floor next to my shoes.
"Yeah, me and Jenna grabbed a bite to eat after work." I sat as I take a seat at the table.
"Okay good, I'm heading up to bed I have an early day tomorrow. Love you" He kisses my forehead and I whisper a quick goodnight to him.
I pull out my phone and decide to do a little stalking on the guy that came into work tonight.
"Harry Styles" I type into google. He has no facebook, twitter or instagram. There's basically no record he ever even existed. That's pretty strange for someone our age to not have social media but I don't question it further,
I grab my bag and walk upstairs, I can finally take my shower and get ready for another long day at work.
~~~~~~The next day~~~~~~
"You know you really need to get laid." Jenna says as we stock books.I throw a book right at her but she ends up ducking and missing it. "I'm doing just fine, I don't need a guy contrary to what you may think." I roll my eyes. The truth is I am TERRIBLE with guys, when it comes to having guy friends it's fine but whenever they want to become anything more I get scared and run for the hills. My last relationship was a guy named Remy freshman year, he was your typical jock with beautiful blonde locks. He broke up with me to date a cheerleader Maci, and thus was born my tragic love life.
"Just a suggestion, it'll give you something more than just work and school." She shrugs.
I stay quiet continuing to stack books on the shelves. The sound of the door bell goes off letting us know that a customer has walked in.
"I got it." I say as I hop down from my ladder and walk over to the counter.
Low and behold it's the man from yesterday keeping his promise to come back in.
"Hi again, I'll go grab Doug for you." I say to him before he even manages to get a word out.
I quickly go back to stacking books after Doug comes to meet with him. I can't help but trying to overhear their conversation, but the music we play throughout the store makes it nearly impossible to hear anything.
"Nessa! Can you come over here." Doug waves me over.
I walk over to where they're both standing and I notice for the first time that Harry was green eyes. He's watching my every move and it makes me somewhat nervous.
"Can you assist Mr. Styles in training?" Doug says and a confused look washes over my face.
"T-training? So like he works here now?" I say.
"Yes dear, why else would I be asking you to train him?" Doug says in a slow sarcastic tone.
I just nod at him. "Okay well follow me."
"So this is the register, it's pretty simple to use but it's an old system so you'll have to be patient with it" I show him the different buttons and functions of the semi rusted register thats probably from 2005 and he just nods every now and then to prove he's listening.
We move through all the training easily and pretty quickly considering this is a tiny bookstore and there isn't much to learn.
"So that's it, there's not much to this job you'll honestly figure it out as you go." I say handing him his temporary employee card for the register.
"Thanks, I really appreciate it." He gives me a small smile.
"Are you gonna take a lunch Nessa?" Jenna asks me as she grabs her bag from behind the counter.
"I don't think so, I'm trying to get out of here early today." I say to her.
"Alright, i'll bring you back something" She winks at me before looking over at Harry and then walking away.
"I'm just gonna organize these new shipments, you can go out and eat lunch if you want." I pull out a small box cutter that I've sliced my finger on numerous times and begin to cut the tape open on the boxes.
"It's fine, I can help." He says shyly.
He grabs the box cutter off the counter and begins opening a box and before I know it him and I are finished with all the shipments. We worked in silence the whole time, I have a feeling he isn't one for conversation but I guess neither am I. Jenna is the talkative one, we're practically polar opposites in every way but someone we make it work.
"You know technically your training day is only supposed to be 2 hours, so you can go home now I really appreciate all your help Harry." I give him a small smile and it seems to make him uncomfortable because he begins scratching the back of his neck.
"Y-yeah um no problem...guess i'll see you tomorrow?" He says slowly while grabbing his tattered black leather jacket off the rack.
"Yup! I'll see you then."
As Harry is walking out, Jenna is coming back in with a brown chipotle bag in her hands.
"I come bearing gifts." She chuckles to herself handing me the bag that I can only hope is filled with my favorite. "A bean burrito with sour cream, lettuce, extra guac and brown rice your favorite." She says to me right on cue as if she can hear my thoughts out loud.
"Thank you, you're the best." I smile at her and she gives me a sassy look as if to tell me she already knows.
"How'd it go with McDreamy while I was gone? You two seemed to hit it off." She smirks at me.
I roll my eyes at her. "If by "hit it off" you mean work in silence for the last hour then yeah we totally hit it off!" I say sarcastically. I take a bite of my burrito and I'm instantly in heaven, it's still warm from being wrapped up in the foil and then I realize that I've completely drowned out everything that Jenna is saying to me.
"Im sorry what" I half say still chewing my burrito. I feel the guac running down my mouth and I quickly grab one of my napkins before it gets on my black shirt.
She sighs. "I said maybe he's just shy you never know, you should just ask him out."
Jenna pulls her long blonde hair into a ponytail before re-applying her favorite shade of lipstick 'Cafe De Leche' it's surprisingly not a brown color but instead a bright purple mixed with red. She's worn this lipstick every single day for pretty much the entirety of high school; but it works for her and no one I know could pull off such a bold color like Jenna can.
"I'm gonna ask him out." I say out loud and the minute I do I feel like retracting those words back into my mouth. Jenna's eyes light up in a way I've never seen her crystal blue eyes do before. And before I know it she's rambling on and on about what I should wear, how I should do my hair and where we should go out on a date. I already have a feeling this was going to be a bad decision.
