It is dawn. There was nothing but the sound of the whimpering trees as four moving feet ran past them. The scratching of the fallen leaves on the dirt below their naked heels has served them warmth in the otherwise cold ground. They ran and ran and ran- him and her. He, who was fast and strong and beautiful. And she, who was poor and weak and very much in love with him.
They did not stop. They couldn't. Not until they get far enough, as far as their battered feet could take them. Past the dark peaceful woods, past the loud flowing river, and past the kingdom they once belonged in. They were left with nothing but each other and somehow, they were free.
A long time had passed, with both deciding to stop as they reached yet another dark forest. The sun is up and about, shining through Rose's tattered icy blue dress as she sat under a huge tree they had found at the center of the woods. Vernon sat close beside her, wrapping his arms around her shoulder.
"Are you sure about this, Vernon?" she was breathless, looking him up with her face close to his chest. " You don't have to do this."
Vernon looked down at her green eyes - a pair that intoxicated him and he avoided a lot when he was still respected by his people. "I don't have to, but I want to." He whispered, his grip tightening on her shoulders as he breathed a sigh on her hair.
She could feel his lips on the crown of her head, and she felt guilty. This was all she ever wanted. He was. And now that she have him by her side, she know for sure that she would never let him go, even if his heart were somewhere else. He had given up everything for her - for his people, his kingdom. He was the perfect king who would respect a mere servant like her - and she would take advantage of that.
With that in mind, she fell asleep with her hand rested against her bulging stomach and Vernon's navy blue coat around her fragile form. He looked at her, both love and pity on his silver eyes. He loved her the same way he loved the children he played with out in the urban villages. He loved her the way his father does on his people. He loved her, never quiet the same way she did, but he needed to save her.
They had created another life.
It is the crack of midnight. The palace guards, all wearing their blazing red armor suits that matches their sun-kissed helmets, were pacing menacingly around the enormous walls of the kingdom. Their majestic king, Sr McDavid Vesta, had just been down his chambers with plenty of his concubines, trying to enjoy his last night of being a free man.
He noticed that there were at least a count of four men guarding outside his gigantic doors. The palace walls, although thick, were not able to fully conceal the voices produced by his midnight rendezvous. He had known for sure that the men by his door could hear the sultry noises of his mistresses.
Being a king for a respectable number of years, he had quickly learned that dominance is just another term for blood. He knew since he was the next king-in-line that he had only been graced by such importance because of his royal lineage. He had also noticed, upon years of looking up to his father, that being feared is the painless way to gain superiority.
And McDavid is just that - feared; he is brave, he is loved, he is lusted over, and he was thought not to play favorites. Well, he hadn't. Not until he met the only concubine he ever fancied, Lilia.
It has been years since he had first met Lilia. She was a servant at their land- the Kingdom of Huma. He had talked to her plenty of times in the past, back when they were both still innocent and oblivious kids that had not been tainted with the reality that they were not on equal stands.
