Sabah publishing didn't take it easy on even their first day editors and Sanem was feeling it . It had been 3 hours since Can dropped her off and the majority of that time was spent working , suprise suprise ! .
After a brief introduction to her boss Yigit Bey, a ginger haired man with a face that radiated innocence ,which reminded her of her dog bonjuk at home, the thought made her a little homesick . His handshake was firm and his greeting short and clipped which made Sanem wonder if all there interactions would be that boring .
Next, she was introduced to her supervisor Deren who had mousy hair with fiery red tips to match her exuberant personality which flourished through the warm greeting she gave Sanem, instantly going in for a hug .That was all fairly well and good , however the joy of work had long since left Sanem as she was sifting attentively through a Turkish rendition of the famous 1001 nights. Correcting any grammatical and pragmatic mistakes. Who would've thought her being a history junkie would become the bane of her existence some day .
After the 12th time reading Ahmettin instead of Aladin the restless girl decided it was time for her long over due lunch break .Sanem informed Deren and another colourful charecter she had met at the agency, a bright eyed gossip that went by the name of Gamze .The three women went to a bustling restaurant the two had spoken very highly of .
"So? what do you think" Deren questioned eagerly awaiting Sanems opinion on the double espresso shot she had made her down like an actual shot of liquor .
"Soyle? Does it give you energy, take your stress away ", she exclaimed enunciating the r in energy with a ring .
Sanem didn't want to let down the excited girl across from her so nodded in agreement, willing the strong taste to disperse in her mouth. She was more of a tea drinker herself .
"So, Sanemcim, I've been dying to ask you this question all day". Gamze dramatised which was followed by a pregnant pause .
Sanem raised her eyebrow in question, but before Gamze could ask Sanem her burning questions about her social life her phone rang .Acknowledging that it was an unknown number, Sanem let it ring a few times before answering .Because whoever it was clearly wasn't important enough to be interrupting her beloved tea, and chicken sandwich if they weren't even saved in her contacts.
"Sanem allah aşıkına pick it up or I will!" Deren pressed .
She wiped her fingers and sides of her mouth from the remains of her flavourful lunch, and after the fifth ring finally answered.
"Sanem why did it take you so long to pick up the phone !" Can barked . Sanem flinched not read for the tone of his voice .
" Bi saniye kizlar ". Sanem excused herself and speed walked outside of restaurant ."Ne demek why did you take so long to answer the phone " Sanem mimicked a deep manly voice .
"Your number isn't saved on my phone, how was I supposed to know" annoyance was clear in her tone .
"I-"
"No you listen Can Bey you have no right to call me yelling and so what if I didn't answer my phone? what I do is none of your business!" she snapped .
"Well it is my business since I will be picking you up from work today " Can humoured .
"Says who? because I sure as hell didn't request for you to collect me like I'm a toddler, what's next? holding my hand like a baby!".
Sanem knew it wasn't fair to direct her pent up anger at him, but that was no comparison to how good it felt letting it all out .
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea actually and before you snap again am I not allowed to care about you Sanem ?" Can catechised, offence clear in his tone .Sanem paused, her next argument lost on her tongue as anger quickly replaced itself with guilt .
Maybe this mans goal wasn't to embarrass or demean her, everything he'd done so far had been helpful and genuine so why was she giving him such a hard time ?. She questioned herself although her subconscious already had the answer and it would take along time for her to come to terms with it .
Meanwhile, Deren and Gamze watched as the girl who was pink in frustration less than a minute ago was as calm as the blowing wind with a smile teasing away at her face .
"It's her boyfriend 100%, friends can't make someone go from angry to happy that quickly ".
Deren stated with confidence , Gamze who was sipping her tea deep in thought, making a mental note of a list of interrogative questions to ask her new friend later, nodded in agreement .
"Aw you care about me !"
Sanem quickly pulled herself together and teased in a high pitched baby voice .
He chuckled but didn't try to refute her statement because after all, the wild girl was starting to weave her way into his heavily guarded heart .
"See you at 4 ".
He smiled to himself, ending the phone call .
Sanem pulled her phone away from her ear and saved his contact as "Free Lift " with a grin on her face .
Once the cheerful girl got back to her friends she was newly acquainted with she was hit with a mountain of questions.
"No Gamze, he's not my boyfriend he's my neighbor! and yes Deren you can see him when he picks me up ". Sanem sighed tired at this conversation, because if anything they were friends right ? did it really look that weird from the outside looking in?.
"Yes tatlim no man goes out of his way to drop a girl off at work early in the morning if he's not into her". Gamze said pointedly .
"Uf enough about me, hadi girls back to work, Deren you are supposed to be setting an example !". Sanem teased hoping that nobody noticed the quick change in topic because honestly the thought of her and Can made her feel a little lightheaded .It was 3pm and Sanem had successfully edited 5 short stories from the hefty book Yigit Bey had mercilessly started her off with .When she said she wanted the chance to publish her own book she didn't think it meant actual hard work .
After an hour of surprisingly positive critique from Yigit and Deren on her first day efforts, Sanem left the agency arm in arm with her new friends that she had grown quite fond of in a short period of time .
The girls made plans to go shopping on the weekend demanding that Sanem visit the shopping mall that the girls loved. While the two girls talked amongst themselves about some reality tv show Sanem texted Can.
"Where are you", she was met with an instant reply .
"Look up".
Sanem looked up from her phone and was taken back by the sight infront of her. There Can sat clad in leather head the toe with the exception of a shiny black motorcycle helmet in his hands .
"Sanem Hanim " he greeted with a smirk, brushing his wild untamed hair with his fingers .
For the first time since Can had met the animated girl, she was surprisingly silent. He watched her intently as she looked from her two friends, to his motorcycle, to him .
This went on for a while as her two friends Deren and Gamze made light conversation with him. Can understood why the three got along so well as Sanems silence was definitely not missed .After promising to come over for tea, not making it clear if it was with Can or Sanem, the two girls all but pushed Sanem into Can and speed walked away .
Sanem stumbled a little and was offered aid in the form of Cans hand reaching out to her .
"Hadi sanemcim we don't have all day " Can soothed, effectively snapping Sanem out of her trance .
"Hayir Hayir I will get a taxi no thankyou Can ". She stuttered the fear of the unknown overcoming her .Can observed her expression go from confusion to fear and put the motorcycle on park getting off the bike to come to Sanems side .
"There's nothing to be scared of look it's just like a normal bike ". He reassured
"Besides I'll protect you, hadi you've got this ".
Sanem focused on his hands putting the extra helmet on her, gently clipping it under her chin. The naive girl was very much in a trance, overwhelmed by his musky scent and close proximity. He was so beautiful up close.
"You'll protect me " she echoed, searching his dark eyes for reassurance.
"I'll protect you". He breathed maintaining eye contact, while subconsciously moving the stray hairs that were peeking out of the helmet away from her face and behind her ear gently .
He helped her get on the bike first then sat in front of her moving her arms to wrap around his waist.
Before she could protest he highlighted that it was "for her own safety" .
Sanem felt comfortable in the knowledge that there was a reason in their almost intimate proximity and gripped onto him tightly, resting her head on his shoulder, bracing herself for the ride of a lifetime."Are you scared ?". Can yelled over the sound of the engine .
"Ben mi? yok ya ". Sanem shouted , her nauseous facial expression exposing her true emotions .————
