Me and princess_gwen_is_fab thought of a conspiracy theory based on all of the questionable stuff that Pete did.
We were questioning why the rest would try to kill Pete, but then we saw this:

And suddenly everything began to make sense.
Pete is a serial killer and he tried to kill the rest of the Kinks. But Ray, Dave and Mick were beginning to get suspicious. So they tried to kill Pete, but it didn't work.
So that's why Pete fled from The Kinks in 1969. His plan to kill the Kinks was unsuccesful.
