Noooo!!! I covered my ears, absolute fear consuming my insides. I started shaking and I wrapped my arms around me. I'm not crazy. I'm not crazy. This isn't real.

"Wendy? " a deep voice asked, bringing me back.

At once, all sound returned and the menacing laugh quickly faded into nothing. All was normal, I looked to kyle and brenda, who were staring at me like I had lost my marbles.

"Brenda, we have to go," I immediately said, with a shaky voice.

She looked helplessly at kyle, probably internally debating whether or not she should come with me.

"I should leave as well." Kyle concluded, making her choice easier.

"Aw," Brenda whined "maybe I'll see you again soon."

Kyle nodded, although he was hardly paying attention to her. Instead, he was focused on me and I would have been flattered if not for my jumping nerves. "NOW." I firmly said to Brenda.

"Okay, okay. See you, kyle." She said. And yeah, I noticed, she said 'See you' and not goodbye. That was just the cherry on top of the growing pile of things that were driving me insane at the moment.

I hopped on my bike, as brenda did on hers and we crossed the street, pedaling down chestnut Street to go home. Just before we reached the crescent, I realized, I rudely didn't even say goodbye to kyle. And so I glanced over my shoulder before the turn, but he was long gone.

I looked at brenda and she smiled at me, as we rode past the chestnut Street.
