I ran to Elle's room and stared sadly at the slowly moving image of clouds on her wall. I scanned it and my gaze fell upon a small bow wedged in between her wardrobe and the clouds. I picked it up and dusted off its ornate top. I examined it closely and sat on her bed, trying to open it. I noticed a keyhole on the front and I started searching the floor in confusion, looking for a key when my fingers brushed something sticking out of the bottom and I flipped it over to see a small key hidden in the bottom. I carefully removed it and tried it in the lock, it slipped in smoothly and clicked open. Inside there were a collection of envelopes with names on them. I paused when I came across one with the name Sophie on it. The girl she volunteered for. I thought about it for a moment but decided to open it. I pulled the letter out and unfolded it as carefully as I could. With a heavy heart, I began reading.
Dear Sophie,
I hope that at some point these letters will reach you, if not then they will gather dust till I am long forgotten. I thought I should write to since I think out of all people, you deserve to know what it's like before the games.
First of all, the food here is so much more extravagant. Isn't everything here? I'm starting to miss Aurora's mystery stew though, nothing beats that.
My room is so big compared to the one we share. You'll have it all to yourself now so enjoy it. My bed has the softest sheets and I have so many I'm warm at night even though it gets colder here than back home. They're all the same quality and oh I wish I could give one to you. It would make you sleep so much better, it does for me. My room has this big wardrobe in it like all the tributes have and one wall has a big screen, like a tv on it. It's really cool though because I can change the scene it plays, I chose some clouds and the bright blue sky.
The people here are no different then you see on the tv, they're very... extravagant and live a very lavish lifestyle. The tributes however, are either cold, desperate or kind. One I've noticed in particular is Kyle from district 4. I think I were with you would probably say he's hot or something like that. But he's so kind Sophie, he's always friendly and he has the most perfect smile. I admire him for his interview, honest but he was still able to make the Capitol love him. I'm going to ask him to ally with me next training session, we would be a good team.
I have to leave for training soon so I'll start finishing up. I'll write again tomorrow and let you know how it went.
I love you,
Elle
