Chapter 1

I was crying and running in the middle of the street in February. I didn't know where to go so I ran to the only place I knew no one would find me . I ran past the lake . Past the crazy man on the corner. I ran all the way to the Redwood Cemetery .

- Two Years earlier -

I was at school like any other day. It was raining and it was miserable at school. It was finals today. The last day .Everyone is ready for it to be over and done with.Everyone was spazing out .

It's the end of the day now and everyone is happy about finals being over . As like any other day I walk out of school and looked for my mom or dad. I didn't see either of them , so I waited 2 minutes. Nobody came . I was sitting on the bench waiting for them when they came out. The jerks. The hottest, meanest guys in the school. I see them walk out and they see me stare and walk over to me. I've known some of these kids since kindergarten and once they hit middle school they changed.The two head jerks sit down next to me . Their names are Matt and Eric . 

"Hey Maddykins, how you been?"Eric ask. 

Matt , Eric , and I used to be best friends. 

"Good. How 'bout you?" I ask. 

"Same old stuff."He responds. 

I think to myself "if your doing the same old stuff then why aren't you the same". 

"How 'bout you , Matt?" I ask. 

" I've just been chillin' a lot. You know doin' homework." Matt says. 

Matt and I used to go to each others houses a lot and the first time I went to Matt house I end up crying because of what it was like. Matt has 5 other siblings and his dad left the picture. His mom was a prostitute and was trying to support her children. I went over and heard about everything and ran outside and cried. After that Matt and I have had a close relationship until middle school.  

"Matt you don't do homework." One of the other guys said.  

"I always do my homework."Matt said. The conversation started to get boring so I said : 

"I'm leaving , see you guys later." 

"No your not." One of the other kids said. 

"What?" I asked . 

"I'm not letting you leave." The kid told me. 

"Dude , she wants to leave . Let her leave." Matt told him. 

"No you can't tell me what to do and I'm not let this get away." The kid said as he went to rub my cheek that Matt smacked away and stood between me and this kid. I could tell Matt was getting bad vibes from him. 

"Jerome she wants to leave. Let her LEAVE."  Matt started to get angry now. All of a sudden Matt punched Jerome in the stomach. Jerome fell to the ground and everyone crowded around him. Matt came over to me. 

"Maddy run. Run home and don't stop or turn around." Matt kissed me on the lips , pushed me away and turned back to hold off Jerome . When I started to run Jerome had just gotten off the ground . Matt knew that I was on the track team so I can run fast . I get to the corner and look back. I see Jerome and everyone else running after me . Everyone except Matt and Eric. Now I know something is wrong. I turn the corner and almost trip over the crazy guy on the corner. I jump over him and turn down the alley way behind the high school. I hide behind a dumpster and wait. I hear footsteps and hold my breathe. 

"Where did she go?" One kid asks. 

"I don't know , but we better leave before Eric calls the cops on us."
