Before-
I gazed up at the sky as we wandered down the street. It's bright blue and wispy clouds danced together like marble.
I kept my head upward watching the wind create and destroy cotton masterpieces, letting the one sided conversation between me and Matrice lead me along the right path as I walked.
I called him Matt for short. His angelic voice belongs up there with the clouds too, a boy much more pure for the rest of this world.
My thoughts drifted further and I soon found myself on the concrete with breath knocked right out of my lungs, Matt's mom was staring down at me in disapproval. I must have accidentally walked into her during my daydream.
She didn't say anything but I could already tell she was furious by the rage boiling off her face on the already hot day. I would have apologized if it wasn't for the fact that that she had already continued walking, still shaking her head at me.
Matt reached out his hand and I took hold of it, his blonde hair slinging back wildly and a stupid grin on his face as he pulled me up.I hadn't the faintest idea where we were heading to but I would do anything for Matt, so here I was walking who knows where beside him, while his mom led the way.
We were probably going somewhere to be taught a lesson by her about how hanging out with the 'opposite gender' as only friends isn't realistic anymore, and how we should move on.
Except for the fact that me and him were friends since we were born.
When we were taken to get cleaned up after our moms gave birth to us, the staff washing us were in a hurry to end their shifts and switched us, taking me to his mother and he ended up with my mom.
This happened when she was still here of course. I don't remember when she left, I was only two but I still feel a hole in my heart from where she should be.
Since Matt's dad left his mom when he was little as well, it caused both of our parents work together in giving us a life with both parents which happened to bring us even closer.
Well, that was when we were kids. We were always known as the two little angles and I'm guess we still are according to most of the people in our town. In other words- everyone except Matt's mom. After what felt like hours of walking to nowhere, we finally stopped at a restaurant for dinner. We spotted the red neon letters above the restaurant bleeding into the fading sky as the sun slowly began its journey down.
Me and Matt shared a cheeseburger which was famous in town for its size and a large cheerwine. When the total was mentioned I swiped my card to pay for me and Matt's food along with his mom's to hopefully make up for my incident earlier.
More of her glares were shot in my direction but I just tried to brush them off. She was being extra pissy today for some reason which may or may not have to do with the combination of me and the humidity.
Matt grabbed the straws and napkins as we looked around the already full diner. There were no tables in sight and I turned to him to check if he spotted anything, he shrugged and we looked at his mom.
She let out a long sigh and walked towards the door. The sticky hot air was suffocating as we walked back out again. After we ate I went back inside to use the bathroom before we began our hike again.
I was on my way back out when something- or someone caught my eye.
I stopped inside the small secluded area separate from the rest of the diner with the two bathroom and pressed my shoulder against the family bathroom.I heard the door close, I felt Matt slide his arms around my waist and he rested his chin on my shoulder from behind.
"I'm sorry about my mom, but she has had a tough week." He said.
I nodded and shifted my weight off the door so we could go back into the main dining area and outside to his mom.
His grip tightened and his eyes reflected something I haven't seen before.
I looked back at him in confusion, "Wh-what are you doing?"
"Please Chiaro just one kiss" he whispered quietly, his hot breath tickled my ear.I turned my head away, what has changed?
Why is he suddenly acting like this?
I pulled away and his hand softly fell to his side in defeat.
"Chiaro I just wanted to let you know that I've loved you for so long, waiting and hoping you feel the same."
He pulled me closer and I looked in his helpless eyes to hopefully show what I couldn't bear to say, I only wanted a friendship.
He gave a look of hurt and a light kiss to my head before letting go with a small smile.
"I'll wait." His arms dropped back down to his sides.
"We should go." When I said it my voice had gone dry and it came out weak. His mom stepped into view, "Yes you should and I hope I never see you again you disgusting little brat."
We broke further apart and I drifted out of the daze I was in.
Her cold eyes wrapped around mine and she slapped me hard on my cheek and sent me fumbling backwards. I was on the ground and she walked forward which closed me in, her shadow towered over me.
"You are the most horrible person who has walked the earth and I hope you burn in hell with your horrible mother as well."Tears welled up in my eyes and I ran past her, I ran straight out of the diner and down the road. Matt was howling my name and I ran faster, trying to get away. I looked back to see him still running toward me. He caught up with me at an intersection, we were out of breath and I kept walking over to the sidewalk.
"Hey, I'm so sor-."
Before we could reach the sidewalk a whirl of silver sent us flying off our feet in a flash before it was stopped by a light pole that gratefully saved us from a second hit.
My head started to painfully throb and darkness started to settle in before me.
I opened my fuzzy eyes and saw Matt being lifted on a stretcher.
Hot pieces of metal were burning my skin and blood dripped from my split lip. I closed my eyes again. The next time I opened them was when my dad was carrying me home and tucking me into bed. I slept for what could have been days before I decided to even lift my head.Bandages we're wrapped around parts of my body that had gotten scraped up and I had a cast on my right arm. I walked out in the living-room to see flowers and gift baskets everywhere as well as my dad on the floor sleeping. Tears started to form again as I remembered the events that had happened a few days prior.
Hot tears slid down my cheek as I lifted up a little bear with a note.
"I'm sorry for your loss"
No, please no.
I collapsed on the floor and my sobs echoed through the house. I felt arms wrap around me and hold me tight as I let out all the emotions of 14 years at once. My dad put a hand on the back of my head, I turned around to him and buried my head deep within his cotton shirt. He leaned back against the wall, still sitting on the floor with with his arms around me as I cried for hours until he gently picked me up and laid me back down on my bed. But now everywhere I go and everything I do will be a reminder of him.
I reminder of the love I wouldn't give.
