Park Jasmine

I walked out of Yoo Ji's house and pulled my hood over my head. I regret leaving the house without taking my umbrella with me, it was pouring and I'm already soaking wet the minute I stepped out of the door. shit, I muttered to myself and walked my way out of the front porch.

I pushed through the glass doors of my favorite coffee shop. it was two blocks away from Yoo Ji's house, I wanted to grab coffee before I get home. "The usual" I looked at the lady and she smiled. "Americano" she muttered and prepared my coffee. I sat on the comfy couch next to the window near the door and took my phone out of my wet pocket. I took tissue papers from the tissue holder and wiped my wet phone screen. I pulled my hood off of my head and fixed my hair. I look hideous, I thought and used my phone as a mirror to see how I look like. No makeup, greasy and swollen, Park Jasmine.

The glass door swung open and a Korean guy walked in. He was wearing a white shirt and a dark denim jacket, maybe now dark blue because it was soaking wet as well. He placed his dripping black umbrella in the bin placed near my table for wet umbrellas. He looked at me for a second and walked to the counter.

"Americano, please. Extra shot, extra ice, make it nice, araseo?" I saw the side of his lips tug into a friendly smile which made the lady smile and nod.

"Large?" she asked.

"Yes" he simply said and took his wallet from his pocket.

"Card?" she looked at him and raised her eyebrows.

"No, price?" he opened his wallet.

"It's 5,700 won" she smiled and he muttered.

"Oh okay" before giving her his money. He walked to the table near mine and sat on the blue one-seater couch. He looked at his phone which made his wet disheveled hair cover his eyes but he didn't even care to brush it up. I scrolled through my phone while waiting for my coffee.

"Americano for Jasmine" the lady at the counter said loud enough for me to hear. I took my phone and my wallet from the table and stood up. I walked past the guy and I felt him look at me again. I took my cup of coffee to go and passed the lady a smile. I looked at the guy and saw him look away. I smiled to myself and walked out of the coffee shop and felt the raindrops shower on my face as soon as I set foot on the pavement. I slowly walked away from the coffee shop to avoid slipping, I didn't want to embarrass myself.

As soon as I reached my house, I took off my wet shoes and walked to my room to change into dry clothes. I took a towel and wrapped it around my wet hair. I sat on the couch and watched a random show on TV. I sipped on my morning coffee and enjoyed watching the animated characters on the tv screen.

...

I woke up from my phone ringing. I checked the time, 3:46 pm. I fell asleep again, fuck. I stood up and felt my stomach grumble. I am really not productive when there is nothing to do. I showered and woke myself up from the thought of sleeping. I walked out of the shower and wrapped a towel around my body and wrapped my hair with another smaller one. I wore my green pullover and my black sweats and wore my white socks and slipped in my slides. I tied my hair up into a ponytail and fixed my bangs. I applied lip balm, grabbed my phone, wallet and left my house to grab lunch.

I pulled my earphones from my pocket and plugged them into my phone and listened to '92914'. I walked my way to the local bookstore and looked for new books I could drown into and went to subway to eat lunch after.

I was sitting on the bench waiting for the bus. I decided to go to my friend's house again and stay there till dawn, might as well sleep there too. I was biting on the straw of my drink and scrolling through my phone till I got a text message from my guy best friend, Cline.

'Jasmine, it's Han Jae Bin's birthday tomorrow, she's throwing a party tonight at H2o, 11:00 pm sharp. you must be there'

I sighed and looked at the time, it was 5:10. I rolled my eyes and sipped on my iced coffee. I looked at my transparent plastic cup and noticed that I barely sipped on this flavorless iced coffee. I threw the drink in the bin next to the bench as soon as the bus pulled up in front of me. I wasted my money on cheap iced coffee, I thought and rolled my eyes. I hopped on the bus and texted Yoo Ji that I was on the way.

"It's Jae Bin's party tonight, are you going?" I asked Yoo Ji as I sat on her soft bed.

"Of course, she's leaving Korea in two months, how can I not go?" she took a bite on her subway I bought for her.

"Let's go together then" I said and laid on her lap.

"We should look good, the last time we went to a club was 3 years ago" she looked down at me and wore her brightest smile.

"Go ahead, I'll wear my usual hoodie and sweats" I chuckled and pushed her face away from me.

"Boring" she playfully hit my arm and pouted.

"Fine, but I don't have fire clothes, Yoo Ji. you know that" I sat up and pulled off the hair tie from my hair.

"Same, let's go" she stood up from her bed and wore her white vans.

"Where are we going?" I asked her and watched her wear her pullover.

"We're going to shop for clothes" she smiled cheekily. She grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of her bed.

"Hey, no I won't waste money on party clothes" I pulled myself away from her but her grip was too tight.

"Then I'll pay" she winked and made me wear my pullover and slides.

Yoo Ji's parents are separated but both supports her well. She gets half of her mom's salary every month and her dad gave her a copy of his credit card and she uses it to her desire. Life is good for Yoo Ji.

I walked out of the dressing room and showed Yoo Ji the clothes she chose for me. It was a matching blue tight mini skirt and cropped sweater and black heeled leather boots. "Here, wear this" she passed me red-tinted glasses and parted my hair in the middle. "Perfect" she smiled and pushed me back into the dressing room.

"Are we going to get these?" I yelled, loud enough for her to hear.

"Yes" she simply said and I wore my comfy clothes.

We walked out of the mall together and went to my house. Yoo ji wanted to use my unused makeup my mom sent me a week ago, she thinks it's a waste to not use it tonight.

I'm not your typical Korean girl who loves fashion and makeup, instead, I'm the one who spends her days sleeping and eating in my hoodie and sweats, the laziest girl ever. My mom sent me a package last week filled with makeup. Thankfully, I didn't sell them or give them away. I didn't want to buy makeup only for tonight.

"It's 8:56, Jasmine. let's get ready" she stood up from my bed. We spent the remaining time lying down, eating, and scrolling through our phones. "I got a text from Cline, he said he will pick us up by 10:30. he's with Min Sik" she stretched and took the paper bags of clothes on the floor.

"Let's dress up" I stood up and grabbed my clothes in the white paper bag.

We both wore our clothes and applied makeup on our bare faces. I ironed my hair and made it as sleek as possible and wore my blue barrettes.

"Jasmine?" Yoo Ji looked at me with wide eyes and she smiled.

"You look good, Yoo Ji" I looked at her from top to bottom and gave her my assuring smile. She had on her black fitted strapless dress that went to her mid-thigh and her brown faux fur coat. She slipped in her white vans she had on a while ago and grabbed the bag she borrowed from me.

We heard the doorbell ring and I walked towards the door and opened it. "Woah, Jasmine" Cline looked at me with wide eyes.

"I know, let's go" I grabbed my bag on the couch and we walked to his car parked in front of my gate.
